I'm really happy for Beltran, too. One of the most storied active players in baseball who never got a ring until tonight.
And what a night for Carlos Correa. Won the world series AND got engaged, too. Especially after both his homes (Puerto Rico and Houston) got rocked by devastating hurricanes, I'm really happy that he's able to think more fondly about this year.

Now hopefully it'll be Milwaukee's turn next year. The only teams left to win it all; Nats (none, although I'd like to count their win as the Senators) Nope, that's part of Twins history

Honestly, I just friggin wish they would have a day off between Game 6 and Game 7. I've never understood why they go straight into it. If not for the quality, then do it for the hype and bigger ratings. But also, do it for the quality. 162 games, plus a possible 19 more, and you want them to end on back to back nights? I hated it before the dud Game 7, and nothing changed.

Beltran is one of those rare cases where you don't need 500 HRs or 3000 hits to be a HOFer.

Congrats to the Astros, heck of a series from the Dodgers.
Hopefully my Yanks will reclaim the Throne in, let's say, 2 years.

Beltran is one of those rare cases where you don't need 500 HRs or 3000 hits to be a HOFer. Not exactly. He has never been dominant. He has been very good for a long time. He is a poor man's Andre Dawson. And Dawson is BARELY considered a HOFer by many. He has never led the league in ANY offensive category (unless you count games played, which he led the league in once). In an era of high offense, his 435 HRs and 2,700 hits - while good - don't stand out. Not to mention the fact that it took him 20 years to get that amount. His .279 average is mediocre for someone who is perceived as a HOFer. He only finished in the Top 10 MVP voting twice - a fourth and ninth place finish. He has a few Gold Glove, Silver Slugger awards and All Star Game appearances, but let's be honest - these awards are, for the most part, popularity contests. He scores poorly on the black/gray ink tests. He's not much different from Dwight Evans - someone who was very good for a long time, but not great. Sorry, but Beltran's case rests solely on getting 500 HR and/or 3000 hits. He DOES need at least one of those to get inducted. He doesn't have an all-time great peak, or sustained greatness over many years. He has merely been good and sometimes very good over many years, but this just doesn't cut it.

Okay, what are they if you don't mind my asking. In terms of a rematch, baseball is one of those rare sports which it truly feels like anyone has the chance to win if they make the right moves. Football and especially basketball you have teams that struggle for decades while you see the same teams back over and over again. My least favorite time as a baseball fan was the mid to late 90's. You had the strike, you had the Yankees sheer dominance and you had a team I got behind in the Marlins who decided to clean house after winning the World Series. The cherry on the sundae was the steroid scandals coming to light. Now obviously most of that has nothing to do with rematches, but what helped me specifically move past all those things was seeing something fresh every year. In those following years, we saw different teams win it every year, we saw droughts broken, and some of the best games ever played. That's what I feel sets the MLB apart. As far as the Cubs? It's quite simple...I live in an area of mostly Cubs fans. My allegiances are towards the Royals/Cards. No disrespect to any specific fans, but Cubs fans are some of the most obnoxious and dickish fans out there, second only to a lot of the Red Sox fans I've met. Again, not all fans...but the majority of people I've interacted with feel the need to start shit, not even friendly rivalry crap, more like suggesting I'm nuts for not liking the same team they do. Also, the gushing last year from people bothered me to suggest the Cubs were 'underdogs'. No. They had the best record in baseball, the best players and they still won on what I feel was a technicality after a rain delay. They didn't allow for the pitcher to warm up first. I don't want to take anything away from them, but a lot of the people around here treated the Cubs win as some kind of miracle that they were owed. Give me a break. The less I have to personally deal with it, the better.

Sometimes being consistently good over many years can get you in. You don't always need to set the world on fire or reach the mythical milestones for hitters.
