I used to be a fan of the guy and in my opinion during 2004 until 2006 he was the best big man in wrestling. It pains me how his career turned out and the damages done to his body. Since he's an agent now I think his days of being an active ring competitor are over, I would like to share my memories of him.
In 2002 he debuted as Prince Justice in the battle royal to determine the nwa champion. It was basically a cameo and he was eliminated in seconds. After that he went to IWA in Puerto Rico and Dutch Mantell gave him the Abyss gimmick.
In 2003 he returned to TNA as Abyss and he bounced around doing nothing of substance, he was managed by Don Callis and Kid Kash.
In 2004 he feuded with AJ Styles and in Lockdown they had one of the best cage matches in tna history. He also worked with Jeff Hardy and Monty Brown.
In 2005 he was paired with James Mitchell and he feuded with Raven and also had the match of the year against Sabu in a barbed wire match. In my opinion it was his best year but it also eventually led to his downfall. It was during this year that he started bumping on the thumbtacks, it led to Abyss fighting with James Mitchell who argued that he was killing his own gimmick. Mitchell called him Willie E Coyote because he always fell for his own traps.
In 2006 the company tried to push him as a main eventer by challenging Christian Cage, he also did hardcore stuff. He lost every feud he was in and kept bumping on thumbtacks.
In 2007 the company still had faith on him and had him work in a lengthy feud with Sting. Unfortunately it derailed him and killed any shot he had as a main eventer after the infamous Last Rites match. TNA also plagiarized the Kane and Paul Bearer angle with Abyss and James Mitchell being revealed as his father. He also had hardcore matches with Judas Mesias, Abyss lost most of the matches and took the most dangerous bumps. During that year he won the nwa belt from Sting by dq, it was forgotten about the next month.
I don't remember what he did in 2008 and 09 honestly. I think he wrestled in white for some reason.
In 2010 he worked with Stevie Richards and Raven. Abyss kept taking unnecessary bumps and falling on tacks. He was also set on fire, TNA being TNA didn't clear it with SPIKE who rejected to broadcast Abyss being set on fire. He also had a feud with Mick Foley who accused him of being a cheap Mankind impersonator, and if you saw the original Abyss mask you would agree with Foley. In that year he also worked with Hogan who called him the next John Cena. The awful magic ring storyline happened. Abyss lost most of his feuds.
A scary moment happened during that time, he worked with Desmond Wolfe, well Desmond contracted hepatitis b because of the uncleaned ring. Yeah Abyss almost contracted hepatitis.
He then lingered on as part of Inmortal, THEREE HERREEE ugh. Of note he lost his front teeth due to a Rob Van Dam kick.
Sometime later he changed gimmicks to that of Abyss's brother Joseph Parks. That gimmick was awesome. It proved he could cut a promo and didn't need the garbage wrestling to get over.
In 2014 he returned to being Abyss but it was sad to see him work hardcore matches, his body just wasn't the same. He had meaningless feuds against Magnus and Eric Young.
The next year he formed Decay with Crazzy Steve and Rosemary presumably because he can no longer put on single matches due to the state his body is in.
Now currently he's Joseph Park and feuding with Grado just because.
If his career is finishing I think Abyss underachieved greatly. That Russo booking shit in 07 turned him into such a buffoon that he never quite recovered, but the wrestler also deserves some blame because he always wanted to bump on the thumbtacks and broken glass and burning tables. Instead of being an unstoppable monster he became a joke.
