Man, I loved the OG Rings trilogy and a couple of the Hobbit movies are all right, but it’s like, what else is there to comb over? Unless they’ve got some god tier new OCs lined up.

That does narrow it down a lot. Basically the War of Sauron and the Elves to the Last Alliance. There's a lot of content to mine in that timeframe. Lots of destruction. LOTS.

If this starts with the creation of the Rings, and goes through to the War of The Last Alliance, then that's about 2000 years of lore that Tolkien already outlined.

Looks like all the races of men on Numenour, a couple elves, one or 2 dorfs and probably Sauron.

I really hope this isnt shit. But I just dont trust modern directors to adapt stuff properly.
I bet it overuses CGI and so ends up looking shitter and more dated than Peter Jacksons ones

One shot at the end, are we getting the Last Alliance in season 1?

One shot at the end, are we getting the Last Alliance in season 1? With all the stuff being hinted about (lots of time jumping maybe) it's likely narrowed down to 3 things. The Last Alliance like you said. The War of Wrath flashback or possibly even one of the earlier campaigns against Morgoth. (all the big name elves in the second age would have been at that battle or effected by it) War of Sauron and the Elves in Eregion. Not a lot of other "big war" options with Elves vs organized Orcs. And that looks more like a Big War than a skirmish. Something just feels off about the trailer. Like 90% of the casting is overly young people. And I don't know how I feel about multi-thousand year old elves looking like college kids. Where are the elders? The grizzled war vets? The freakin' parents?

Im surprised to see people on Reddit saying it looks good.
It looks more dated than the 2001 one. The casting is awful and clearly aimed at drawing teens (make everyone young and handsome), the costumes look like costumes, not clothes, the CGI is shit.
I mean .... the 2001 had clothes and armor that looked like clothes and armor. These look like theyre from a cheap costume rack.
The music sucks too.
It screams zero effort cash cow

It looks fine, I suppose. As has been noted, it looks kinda like a generic fantasy show. The casting is awful and clearly aimed at drawing teens (make everyone young and handsome) Not for nothing, with the exception of McKellen, Holm, Lee, Weaving, and Blanchett, the movies drew much the same initial reaction to the announced cast list. The fact that the rest of the cast were British unknowns, Australian soap opera stars, the annoying kid from Deep Impact, and the guy from Goonies who hadn't been relevant since Goonies didn't go down well. People even took issue with Sean Bean as Boromir – who did have some cred as an actor from Sharpe and Goldeneye – as Bean's a regular-sized guy and Boromir in the books is built like Drew McIntyre.

I'm kind of split between being against it because it looks cheap despite the obscene budget and the fact I have no love lost for Amazon and rooting for it due to all the racist idiots throwing screaming tantrums over black people being in it.

Yeah once again racists and right wing trolls make it impossible to determine if criticism is valid or bad faith.
It looks fine. And I have a feeling we've made it not seen everything yet. But we'll see.

Think it looks fine, though it's really hard to determine how good it'll be in a minute total of quick footage.
