This was something I thought about in the Star Wars thread
Even on Easy the Super Star Wars games were a pain in the ass. Were there any other games you can think of that even on Easy mode was a pain

In Arkham Knight, the Batmobile stealth missions were still a nightmare on easy. I stopped playing for days at a time over that nonsense.

Everyone told me the Batmobile stuff was a pain so I skipped it. A shame really since I liked the other 3 games

I got Knight well after it came out so I kind of knew the reputation going in but it took one round in the Batmobile for me to never touch the game again.

Didn't one of the X-Com games (the first one, I think) have a bug that caused the supposedly easiest difficulty level to actually pick the hardest difficulty?
And then, the sequel was purposefully so difficult that the easiest difficulty really was as tough as the hardest difficulty of the original.

As a guitar player with a sense of time I have to go with Rock Bands.
It doesn't follow any musical logic.

I'm playing xcom2 and it's fiendishly unforgiving on easy.
Sometimes to the point where if you mess one turn up, that's it. You've failed.
It's especially annoying because you can do everything right, flank your opponent, get in cover etc only for your soldier to miss from point blank.
Or step on a tile too far and accidentally trigger the next wave of enemies who swarm you.
Or the opponent decides to call in a batch of reinforcements midway through the mission.
Good game, but way too frustrating at times.

Does Dead or Alive 4 count? The easiest mode is "Medium" and is still nearly impossible to play.

I played Alien Isolation on Easy mode and still died at least 20 times. Easy mode doesn't mean shit when the Alien drops down right next to you.

Any of the old games that only give you like 3 levels on easy Didn't one of the X-Com games (the first one, I think) have a bug that caused the supposedly easiest difficulty level to actually pick the hardest difficulty? And then, the sequel was purposefully so difficult that the easiest difficulty really was as tough as the hardest difficulty of the original. the original X-com's difficulty slider didn't work at all I believe. so people were complaining that the Hardest difficulty was still too easy. so they worked from there to make terror from the deep harder... so it was almost unplayable difficult on higher levels. Granted i was never ever to really get anywhere in the original X-com I could never properly work the resource management.

A lesser known one, Urban Reign by Namco.
It had 5 difficulties: Very Easy, Easy, Medium, Hard, Very Hard.
Some of the story missions were so ridiculously hard, that I had playthroughs where I turned the difficulty down to Very Easy and STILL had to play it multiple times.

Yea, when the game first came out and I played and beat it the first time the batmobile missions were a f***ing pain However, when I played it again this year it was much easier for me and not as bad as I remembered

Actraiser 2's "easy mode" is so dumb. First, it's not easy - it's still ridiculously hard. But on top of that it knees you in the groin at the end by not letting you actually beat the game (you can't advance to the final boss at all) - it just gives you a message about "Try it on a harder difficulty!" wooo! No thanks!

No thanks! Lots of old NES/SNES games did that. It was still a pain in the ass, but..
DOOM and all of id Software's games had hard 'Easy' modes, especially Quake.

I found Isolation to be the right amount of difficulty. Punishing if you f*** up, but without been cheap like some games. I died a fair bit, but it was usually due to me making mistakes. The only exception was when I was in a room with one corridor out, the vent from the ceiling had slime trickling down and the xenomorth just wouldn't f*** off. I tried making a noise to get rid of him, he jumped down and got me. Tried waiting, he didn't move, tried luring him out, he got me. Tried sneaking past he got me. It was the only time the game felt cheap.

Contact: Shattered Soldier. Still hard as hell and I think you only got to play half the game.
I saw it referred to as "Shattered Controller," which seems more appropriate.

Catherine is a great game, but Easy Mode is really just Slightly Less Hard Mode, and wasn't even in the original Japanese version.

No thanks! I hate games that punished you for not being good at them. Yeah. I know I suck. But I'm not playing a video game to challenge myself. If I wanted to do that I'd play real life. I'm playing to advance a story.

Golden Axe.
It only allowed you to play a few levels, then asked you to try the harder difficulties.

The Metal Slug games, even on the easiest difficulty you'll more than likely end up using a few continues throughout the game, (Especially the third game.)
And speaking of SNK...pretty much the last bosses of almost all of their fighting games will give ya a decent challenge on the easiest setting.
