If it started with Hogan in 1984, would Diesel still be the linear champion in 1995?

Rising from the grave as Lesnar finally lost a single match.
Fun fact: I decided to apply Ric Flair's mantra of "To be the Man, you have to beat the man" a little more literally with the idea that if you beat someone, you literally become someone. For laughs, I decided to track who would be the Linear Roman Reigns, starting from his time as Roman Leakee in FCW. He immediately lost and went on a wild ride but...I shit you not...Roman Reigns is also the linear Roman Reigns now. All roads lead to Roman Reigns.

Not to triple post just to bump, but I was thinking of starting a thread tracking more linear titles only to find out that Roman Reigns is ALSO linear IC Champion as shown below. f***.
IC Linear Championship
Pat Patterson (Inaugural champion Sep. 1st 1979 when he "won" a "tournament")
Bob Backlund (Defeated Patterson Sep. 24th 1979 at WWF MSG Show in a Cage match - This match unifies the Linear WWF Title with the Linear IC Title until the retirement of Rick rude)
Jeff Jarrett (Rick Rude retired without defending the linear title, reverting to current IC Champion Jeff Jarrett May 4th 1995)
The Undertaker (Defeated Jarrett May 15 1995 at Monday Night Raw)
Mabel (Defeated Undertaker June 25 1995 at King of the Ring)
Diesel (Defeated Mabel Aug 27th 1995 at Summerslam, this match reunifies the lineage for the Linear IC and WWE titles until the retirement of Edge)
The Big Show (Title defaulted to current IC Champion Big Show after Edge retired following his last defense and thus relinquished the title Apr. 3rd 2012)
Alberto Del Rio (Defeated Show April 17th 2012 at WWE Live Wrestlemania Revenge Tour)
Sheamus (Defeated Del Rio May 17th 2012 at NXT taping, this match unified the Linear IC and WWE titles yet again which carries all the way through to Roman Reigns again)

It's been a very long time since I had need to update this thread, but I'm sad to say our new Linear Champion is Shane O'Mac himself. I also updated the thread with a couple more linear histories (which also sadly all eventually converged into the same lineage in the end)

Floyd Mayweather is the current linear Brawl for All champion, he'll likely be the last as he probably wont box again. Pretty sure that one's been debunked, as there was an unaccounted-for match somewhere in there.

Is there a reason multi-man matches don't count for this? Just seems a bit arbitrary if Elimination Chamber matches (for example) don't count.

Is there a reason multi-man matches don't count for this? Just seems a bit arbitrary if Elimination Chamber matches (for example) don't count. Because they're considered a non-standard form of competition where the champion is at an unfair disadvantage and can lose by not losing. Generally speaking, champions are actually very rarely beaten in triple threat or more matches for the title, someone else is. They didn't really lose to anyone. On top of that, there's effectively no difference between a champion losing a match by someone else getting pinned in a triple threat and losing a tag match because their partner got pinned, or losing a battle royal/royal rumble.

I wonder if anyone has done this for the original Hardcore title. So essentially if the 24/7 thing never went away at all, even after the actual Hardcore Title did. (After the end of the Hardcore Battle Royal on August 19, 2002 which Tommy Dreamer won overall and walked out of the arena as Hardcore Champion, the 24/7 rule was switched off. So that night, Tommy Dreamer began the "linear" portion of the Hardcore Linear Championship.)
This would be different from the other linear belts in that any and all sanctioned wrestling matches can result in title switches, including multi-man and tag matches (but only if the actual champion is pinned in a tag match, not if his/her partner takes the legal fall, no title change in that situation). Any time a champ is made to pin or submit in any official capacity, the victor is the NEW Hardcore Linear Champion. Also counting the special match stipulation clause, I've already counted a title change in a steel cage match. But no battle royal 'over the top eliminations' will count as a title change, by the way.
Anyway, I'm up to November 2003 so far. Nothing too crazy yet in terms of venue change, the belt's stayed on the Raw brand all this time. It has changed hands at multiple untelevised house shows, much like the Hardcore Championship did actually. (I'm lucky that, by 2002, records of house show results are much more detailed in that someone somewhere made a note of who pinned who in tag matches. That was key for this purpose, since if I didn't know if a HLC was pinned in an untelevised tag match or if their partner was, I couldn't count that as a HLC title win for either person on the winning tag team.)

Finally...someone who regularly wrestlers has the linear championship. Can't wait for him to lose it back to Reigns or something.

I've been keeping this thread updated over time without bumping it (and you can always check my signature to see who is the current linear champion), but I wanted to bump this thread to note that Carmella's pin over R-Truth marks the first time a woman has held the linear championship and with the current 24/7 booking, we are likely to see a whole bunch of women in the near future.

Well, luckily the 24/7 champion gets put in non-title matches all the time, somehow.
