That match really elevated Dream to a new level, he's going to be amazing once he makes it to the main roster. I didn't expect any of this. That's one thing I love about NXT. We rarely know what'll happen in the dirtsheets but with the main roster shows we have a good idea. It's great going into something and being surprised like that.

This was MOTN for me. And that's saying a lot because this show was stacked from top to bottom. I like how Dream furthered Rude's tights gimmick by putting Black's AND his face on his attire. I love how they recapped their entire feud via the mannerisms and spots displayed in the match. And I love how even though Black won the match, Dream won the war by eating away at his pride and finally getting him to acknowledge his name. Everything was so simple and done so effectively. We already knew Black was great but Dream is also a bonafide superstar. This match was incredible. The storytelling in this match was next level. I'd kill for the dirt sheets to get the info on who was the agent or who put it all together or whatever. WWE lacks in ring stories usually and from facials to the taunt battle to screaming SAY MY NAME while in holds to the end with Black saying his name. Just damn. This is what I want in my shows.

Both guys made themselves stars. Now we just need the "oddball tag team". ...and team Black Velvet was formed.

That said a completely WWE part of the match was the terrible camerawork making it look like Black suddenly whipped out his dick.

Okay, I just watched a second time and think someone could write a damn thesis about this match.
Right now I'm just going to gush about the facial expressions and Black's focus. We all can agree Dream's selling was great, but I'm going to point out two things that I love.
1. The story of Black's refusal to acknowledge Dream and his antics. He looks away during Dream's entire entrance, only looking up when the bell rings to begin the match. There's the great segment early on with each man imitating the other, where Black again doesn't look at Dream in the beginning. After the match, not only does Black glance over at Dream to say his name, but he also chooses to look back as he's walking up the ramp. This could be seen as a sign of begrudging respect.
2. Dream winning the war. So he loses a great contest, and is unable to enjoy Black finally saying his name due to being KO'd. Then, at the same time Black looks back from the ramp, Dream's reaction begins to flow back-and-forth from pain to a smile. He lost, but his fascination of the past few weeks will never forget who he is.

I didn't have a lot of experience watching Black other than his arrival in NXT and his matches at last year's BOLA, and while I liked what I saw... nothing really made me a "fan" per se. Kinda like how you know somebody has a ton of potential, you just want them to show it.
I also couldn't care less about Dream.
However, this match... this f***ing match... I'm a fan of both now. They played their roles to perfection, Black completely outclassing Dream early on... Dream getting a few lucky breaks... Black managing to turn it around... Dream turning it up and hitting some great moves that made me wonder if he was going to come away with the win... then the ending.. all tied together with a simple, but effective, story. Something as simple as "say my name," you wouldn't think would work so well.. but Black being the mysterious, serious, aloof guy he is... refusing to play games with someone as ridiculous as Dream. And Dream, being hopelessly vain and needing attention, and Black refusing to give it to him up until the very end. I hate to say it was a master class, what with all the exceptional work that has been done in 2017 all over the world... but for two guys who have needed their break to be taken seriously to move up the ladder and in the eyes of the fans.... this match made both of them. It has to have turned people, like myself, who were on the fence about Black... and given Dream an instant "must watch" quality. If they can keep up this level of work with other opponents, they both have amazing futures ahead of them.

It was a great match and definitely better than we thought it had any right to be. If it wasn't for War Games, it definitely would be my match of the night

You know when you get on board with someone and everyone else kinda shits on them. And they improve and improve and then eventually win everyone over. Including the fans. And you get so happy that you have misty eyes seeing the person you knew had so much potential realize their potential??? First time was seeing the Miz main event wrestlemania. And now it's the Velveteen Dream. Velveteen Dream is turning into the star I knew he had the chance to be. f***ing loved this match. Best told feud coming in, and amazingly booked from start to finish. Both men came out winners.
And that Sister Abigail looking roll the dice DDT...I sat up out of my chair and said HOLY SHIT!!! That HAS to be his finishing move now. Even though his Purple Rainmaker is a thing of beauty.
And yes to the people saying quirky mis-matched tag team!

MOTN and it's not like they didn't have stiff competition from the NXT Title match or War Games.

Match of the Year candidate aside, we also really need to appreciate how f***ing AMAZING those Rick Rude Pants on Dream were...

Match of the Year candidate aside, we also really need to appreciate how f***ing AMAZING those Rick Rude Pants on Dream were... Those were great. I hope that a month ago someone went to Triple H and said "I think we need to go the Rude vs Roberts route with Dreams tights" and I want to kiss that person

I had always heard great stuff about Tommy End, but his debut at the UK Tournament and the following run in NXT were underwhelming to say the least.
Patrick Clarke was my pick to win Tough Enough, but when he debuted this character I assumed it would go the way of his political character.
These guys took an opportunity and ran with it. This match was just amazing and I’m sold on both guys after tonight. Great, great showing.

The best singles match in NXT this year, besides Bate/Dunne. Incredible.
