I was about to mock NegaSeth but I don't want to make matters worse for you if he wins.
Also, I have Gamera vs. Viras in the "Destroy All Planets" form. It's, uh, yeah. Gappa The Trifibian Monster is on the same DVD and it's actually worse.

NegaSeth seems to care more about what I say over anyone else.

IMO this is the 2nd worst Gamera movie, only being beaten by Gamera vs Zigra. Yes, I rate Gamera: Super Monster higher (It's so bizarre and cheesy its great!). I always wondered how the Gamera movies became so "kid friendly" - with mainly child protagonists... But they were so so so so much more violent than Godzilla movies, at least in the monster combat. Like, its sorta a cool visual, but come on - a giant squid impales a giant turtle in this movie!

Interesting that you mention that as the next Gamera film has a bit of monster violence that was originally cut from the original US version.

It gets shockingly violent when you are used to watching 2 guys in suits hitting each-other for an hour with no signs of damage to either monster.

Heck, the only Gamera movie I can think of that wasn't particularly violent was the original (And maybe Gamera the Brave... but I haven't seen that one in so long, and I have only seen it once, so I can't recall much about it). The 2nd one, Gamera vs Baragon (Which is my favorite Gamera movie, and one of my favorite kaiju movies in general), is straight up super serious, not a kid to be seen. Maybe that one didn't draw the business they thought it would, so they went back to the kid formula since there was one in the first one too. I'm no Gamera expert, so I don't know their motivations.
The movies certainly have their formulas though. New monster appears. Gamera comes to fight monster. Gamera is incapacitated for 1/2 the movie somehow by monster. Gamera make triumphant return (Usually after some help by annoying kids), usually turning one of the monsters weapons against it. Although I give them credit, how they incapcitate Gamera in Gamera vs Jiger is crazy (I also really like this one). I really like the Gamera movies in general despite how formulaic they, but probably best not to view too many of them in one sitting.

Well, to be fair, the Hensei Gamera films were not kids films nor did they try to be. Watching Gamera The Brave...I feel it is the one film that made the whole "friend to all children" thing make sense since you know, he was raised by a kid. Also of the Showa Era films, I think my favorite was Gamera vs. Jiger because other than the way Gamera gets incapacitated, Jiger seems like the most believable of monsters which didn't require a real ass pull for this monster to be a threat.

I can't decide which one is worse: Gamera vs Viras or Gamera: Super Monster (Aka Gamera: Super Clip show)
Gamera vs Viras has it's moments but the use of clips from past films (whoever made the film didn't bother to colorize the clips from the first movie but then again Colorization technology was non existent at the time) was a obivous sign that the film was going to be torture to watch. Super monster on the other hand was a full blown clip show with the big problem that it was in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio while the previous films were 2.35:1 resulting in the clips being pan and scammed to fit the narrower 1.85:1.

From what I have heard, Gamera Super Monster is worse (I cant tell you as thankfully, I have avoided that one because I already have bad flashbacks to Godzilla's Revenge) But of all the Gamera films that had actual new Gamera footage, this was the worst. I still have two Gamera films before I have to trek into Gamera Super Monster and one is so strange in an enjoyable way while I actually like the other one
