There's no way WWE could have trademarked it, but you don't actually need to prove ownership of something before taking legal action over it, so they can easily file a C&D and f*** Bryan over if they want to be petty. And WWWE loves being petty.

They'll probably copyright "the YES Movement" but i don't think they can copyright the word "yes".

And before anyone comes in to say anything assuming good of WWE, Vince McMahon cut "The legal system was made for rich people and I can exploit its structure to destroy you before you can even get this in front of a judge" as a face promo.

They might be able to stop him from using it on merchandise (though he'll be one of the top merch sellers no matter where he goes regardless of what's on his shirts), but I don't see how they'd be able to prevent him from saying it before or during a match. They definitely wouldn't be able to stop the fans at whatever promotion he goes to from chanting it.

WWE has attempted to claim ownership of a hand-gesture and *unbelievably* "3:16, so I think trying to claim they own "YES!" is right in their wheelhouse.
Bonus points, they were screwed over by a dude who claimed to own the word "Spike".

"YEAH, YEAH, YEAH!!!"
He's only got to battle Chris Brown and Lil' Jon in court for the rights to it.

I don't think they can copyright the "Yes!" as in saying it. The "Yes movement" yes they could if not already done so when it happened but Brian could get around that and maintain being over if he still does the whole "yes" thing which to his credit did do it before WWE. Brian was pretty over without it and a top guy in the indies so I'm sure he find ways to be massive over without a term like the "yes movement."

I mean all that Bryan has to do is throw his arms up and everyone in the building will chant “yes” he won’t even need to put it on a shirt.

I'd love it if Vince tried to copyright YES only to find out that the rights to the word is owned by the 1970's English rock band Yes so Vince and Bryan actually owe them money.

I agree that Vince/WWE will be petty enough to C&D Daniel Bryan from doing anything Yes related, good thing Daniel Bryan doesn’t need anything Yes related when he leaves. He will 100% be god tier levels of over wherever he goes, especially the indies.

I can't speak on if he can use it, but to be honest he doesn't really need it. Plus most fans will chant it anyway and WWE definitely can't stop that.
