Because I can't explain this poster for their 2009 Dominion show.

Nazi imagery isn't nearly as taboo in Japan as it is everywhere else.

Manji's a thing, but uhhh, that doesn't really explain away the double sig runes and the color scheme.
Maybe chalk this one up to Brocken Jr.-style tone deafness on the part of Japan.

Nazi imagery isn't nearly as taboo in Japan as it is everywhere else. I know Japan is kind of another world compared to typical western culture, but I had no idea. I guess when thinking more about it, it's not all that surprising since they still use the rising sun flag for certain things.

Japan was the only member of the Axis Powers who didn't have a total cultural revision post-WWII.

It's bizarre how there's all that Nazi imagery like the SS symbol, Nazi-era Reichsadler, and red and black motiffs. But apparently using a right-facing swastika was crossing the line, so they went with the left-facing manji (a far less offensive symbol) instead.

In Japan, military fashion gets fetishized a lot in different aspects of pop culture. It's caused some headbutting before, but in many cases a lot of Japanese people see stuff like this without Nazi connotation, and strictly a generic military image, if you can actually believe that. The Dominion logo there is comically out of bounds, though lol. It's just Kotaku, but this at least links to a few cases. kotaku.com/japanese-idols-dress-as-nazis-for-halloween-1788178386

The answer has already been said in this thread, Japan mostly doesn't care/doesn't find it offensive.
There are multiple pictures of current WWE star Asuka, during her days as Kana, in a nazi style uniform. Also Jun Kasai used to have a swastika on his ring gear, not only that but his finishing move is called the 'Pearl Harbour Splash'.

In Asian religions, the swastika is an ancient sacred symbol for peace. Then the goddamn Nazis took the symbol and used it, since the 1940s it's a horrible symbol in the West.
But yeah, Japan still has a weird use of it.... like dressing in uniforms.

I just imagine someone tirelessly making that show logo and he was working so hard that no one had the heart to tell him to stop what he was doing immediately.

I mean when I was at uni I took a history paper on Nazi Germany and during our final lecture which was about Nazism and pop culture. Our lecturer showed the class a whole bunch of photos of semi nude Asian models dressed as Nazis and she also told us that Nazi Chic porn was popular in Japan for brief period of time. Not to mention there have been Hitler themed restaurants in India,Korea and Indonesia.

You realize that the symbol has existed for hundreds of years before WW2 right?

Except the Nazi swastika was turned 90 degrees whereas the swastika historically most often was not. The use of red and black which were the official colors of the NSDAP and, the Iron Cross and other German symbols, the Germanic script, the German military badge and of course the big one; the double sig rune which was used as insignia initials for the SS.

The use of the barbedwire around the swastika makes it 100x worse for me, I immediately thought of Auschwitz when I seen it.
This is insane lol.
