In recent months, the National Wrestling Alliance has been talked about quite a bit since Billy Corgan, of Smashing Pumpkins fame, took over. With NWA World Champion Tim Storm, the NWA has been reaching out to independent wrestling companies, wrestlers, and fans for suggestions on who should challenge Storm for the championship. I decided to make my own list of wrestlers that should be considered. I’m sure some of the names won’t be a surprise, but there might be a few surprising names. I hope it leads to discussion. wrestlingrecaps.com/2017/12/01/ten-wrestlers-who-should-challenge-for-the-nwa-world-championship/

There is a decided lack of Virgil on your list.

I don't know much about any of these people. Since Jimmy Jacobs is not at risk of going to The WWE anytime soon, I will start with him. Are promotions going to want to book him if he is The NWA's standard bearer?

If the NWA wants to have any kind of footprint, they need to get the title off Tim Storm. They need a bigger name to draw eyes back to the championship.
James Storm is the best option on that list IMO. The LaRae idea is interesting, but too gimmicky to start out with. If they want to do that down the road, I don't see an issue with doing it, but not when you are trying to re-establish yourself.

I like the first few names in Keith Lee, Jeff Cobb, Brian Cage and even Chuck Taylor/Trent Beretta. I also agree, get the belt off of Tim Storm as soon as possible. There are too many great independent wrestlers for him to be champion.
Just a few others off the top of my head, Trevor Lee, Shane Strickland, Johnny Mundo, Michael Elgin, Pentagon Jr.(whatever the heck he's called now), Zack Sabre Jr. and maybe try to get some New Japan guys like Juice and Ishii as Gedo seems to be alright with them working independents.

Can they actually afford any of these guys? Think they might be better off with a David Starr or WALTER, someone looking to make a North American name who might be willing to work cheaper.

I'm willing to see how this Tim Storm thing plays out, I think he's a really likeable wrestler. I like the idea of Corgan's NWA having the old school vibe and giving a spotlight to more unorthodox guys, and this Jocephus guy is pretty interesting to me. The guys on this list are all over the place as it is. I like the idea of NWA trying to come up with some guys they can call their own.

With their biggest name being Magnus, and trying to find their own guys to make a new identity with. Honestly, I say keep the belt on Storm for now. When Katsuya Kitamura from NJPW is ready for his excursion, try and convince NJPW to send them their way. Going with guys like Jimmy Jacobs so close to his release seems to eager to play to the Anti-WWE crowd, which is something TNA went to the well too many times on.

There is a decided lack of Virgil on your list. Virgil being more famous than Corgan's nwa is a sign they should close.

Honestly, I think throwing money at these guys to come in and work programmes with lesser known guys like Storm and other potential contenders, using their greater fame to plug the hell out of these feuds and raise their profiles and that of the title would be the way forward. Short term expense, long term benefits.

What they need is a marketable face for the promotion....as much as I like Tim Storm as a person, he just isn't the man to plug as the face of a promotion.
A 53-year old guy as a face of a dinosaur of a promotion just isn't gonna cut it if Corgan wants to elevate the name of the NWA. Magnus would be a good start, but he really needs to look at all the available people on the independent scene and pick one who can carry on the legacy of the NWA and its championship.

In Championship Wrestling from Hollywood, Dave Marquez tried to present Storm as a legend. I died a little inside. Brocephus, the guy Storm is feuding with, put it best by showing a vcr tape and saying that it had Tim Storm's best matches. Maybe Corgan is going for the geriatric demographic. Tim Storm vs not dead crypt keeper Boogie Woogie Man Jimmy Valiant, viagra on a pole match or age in a cage.

Will say this since Tim Storm will be doing some things with CZW.... Getting MJF as the NWA champ would actually be a great decision. Still insanely young, but the author is right... kid is insanely good at getting heat

I wish people would stop harping on Tim Storms age, he looks no older than Arn Anderson did when Arn was in his 30's.

Short term expense, long term benefits. Anybody who has played as a small fed in EWR should have done this. Feed the "per appearance" guys to your "under contract" guy. Storm is doing a great job carrying the belt, which is the draw for The NWA right now. Having a "name" as their champion isn't the priority.

No clue what he’s even doing now, but Doug Williams would fit in well with the lineage of NWA Champions.

I know most will shit on this idea and they couldn't afford him, but I'd love to see Mr. Anderson as NWA World Champion. Let him tour over the world as an arrogant/cheating/super charismatic heel champion. I understand he's a former WWE/TNA guy, but I think at an early stage like this he'd be great to bring in to give it some buzz.
With the very enjoyable videos Lagana and Corgan produce on NWA's youtube, I could also see Lagana and Anderson doing some great work there too.
