I noticed a drop in quality around series 5 or 6. Granted, I wasn't watching it as much but it just didn't have the same sort of 'zingers' it had in the early days. When I randomly watched an episode and Niles slept with Lillith after they both got drunk (which was out of character for both of them), I knew that the shark had been jumped. It made enough sense for me. Lilith had just been dumped for another man and Niles was going through a rough divorce with Maris, they were both in fragile states of mind. Yeah, but they were usually both so straight laced and reserved that I didn't see them turning to booze as a solution. It just seemed like a bit of a desperate storyline to me.

A good timely one would be, Merry Christmas, Mrs. Moskowitz.
This was hilarious.

DAPHNEEEEE. YOUR BROTHER IS IN MY BED. NUUUUUUUUDE. I know his accent was terrible but I love Anthony LaPaglia in that role. It just works for the drunken idiot he is. "Returning used goods is unethical and I for one will have no part of it"

As a Brit, I can assure you that his accent was terrible - the traditional Dick van Dyke Australian Cockney accent...

As another Brit I can disagree with you. Van Dyke's was much, much worse from my memory but I haven't seen any of Simon for many years. I remember it being a lot closer to accurate than most Americans can manage.

I also remember it being another cock-er-nee guvnaa type accent. I'm from south east London, so he's going for something pretty close to mine, it was just so bad.

Agree to disagree, my friend! That said, in the last episode another of Daphne's brothers was played by Robbie Coltrane. From Scotland. Doing a sort of Geordie accent. I guess the writers were going for a variety of UK dialects...
