Though in my case its probably just discouragement. I’ve been unemployed for five months now and have been looking hard for work and have had numerous interviews-but nothing. I dread the idea of crawling back to my previous employer and begging for a second chance, but it seems that may be my only option. My unemployment runs out next month and I am getting more than a little frightened. Plus this is the first Christmas without my grandmother, who passed earlier this year, and it just feels so strange to wrap my brain around. Anyone else got the holiday blues?

This is also going to be my first Christmas without my grandma, who passed in July, so I'm with you there.
Also sorry to hear about the other stuff. I really hope things start looking up for you.

Absolutely. I lost my dad this year and things have sucked since around Thanksgiving. Dude loved Christmas. It’s gonna be a very hard one.

I wouldn't necessarily call it depression. But working for Walmart has taken the enjoyment out of Christmas. About the only thing I'm looking forward to this year is having the day off.

This is like my 7th christmas without my grandma. Tell you what, it never gets easier. Weirdly enough, I don't ever hurt much about my deceased parents. Just her.
I hit a rock bottom moment recently. Its tough as hell. We put such an emphasis on Christmas and Holidays, I'm surprised more people aren't affected by this shit.
A lot of unnecessary pressure about presents and dinners. Odds are I'll work at least 8 hours on Christmas.
Such is life. Keep your head up, not, sure what you do, but works a dime a dozen if,you get desperate.

Yup.
Between holiday depression, turning 40, and being unhappy and alone, it's hitting me hard this year.

I should be happy, I've got family and financial stability and all that, but I probably won't get what I really want this year.

Not really depression, more of a general hatred of the holiday season.

I want to say “yes” but it’s been ongoing since August. So I guess I’m depressed and it happens to be holiday time.

I'm usually ready for Christmas by now, but I got my hours cut at work, from 20 to 8, and still have people to buy for. It hurts a lot.

Yup. Compounded with "The world is slowly being eaten up by corporations and everyone is cheering" depression.

I have regular depression that isn't exclusive to the holidays and doesn't really get better or worse during said holidays.

Yes, but it's more a case of human civilisation depression. I can't blame winter.

I get the holiday blahs no thanks to seeing christmas stuff in stores in September and October.
It's like seeing a movie trailer a year in advance. By the time it actually gets there, it won't meet the expectation.
I'm blessed that I'll get to go home and see my family this year, but worried that I might not get that chance next year.

So been over 10 years of Xmas without her. Most years I would spend all of Xmas Eve with her. I thankfully got a dog that is a good distraction when I am down. She seems to sense when my mood is down and will start to do silly things.

Seven years ago tonight, my family was in a horrible house fire and we lost everything we owned.
I also lost my mother & brother shortly after 2016 started. Both really loved the holidays.
Its been pretty hard on me & my brother. But, we aren't alone now.

I love Christmas and I am trying my hardest to get into the spirit, whether it's listening to the music or watching TV movies (Those help me get into the spirit, actually), I have been feeling bummed lately. A good female friend of mine whom I had/have (It's very complicated) feelings for had recently started dating someone else and while I am bummed and a bit jealous about it, I feel that he deserves her more than I do (If you want to know more, feel free to PM me, I'll tell the story). I realized that I didn't put in a lot of effort into some stuff for school, and though I am at fault for it, I felt that I could and should have put in more time into the portfolio assignments (well, some) and in-class assignments. Not to mention that I lost a flash drive, which I am hoping is at the local community college where I was yesterday and someone had turned it in.

I still can't get into Christmas after my mom passed a few years ago... she was really my only link to Christmas how I remember it. Presents, getting together with family, stuff like that... that's all gone now and the only reason I celebrate it at all is because I don't want my son to suffer due to my own bitterness. Despite everything, I try to do Christmassy things in order to get into the spirit of things, however work has been unnecessarily stressful this year so I have trouble unwinding even in my off-time.
