I'm sure I'm not the first person to make a thread about something like this, and if this has been the subject of a super-recent thread that might help, lemme know. But I figured I'd ask.
My parents have decided they want to ditch their satellite TV service (cable isn't available where we live) and they want to go entirely with a streaming service, but we've tried to do some homework on it and still aren't fully sure what route we want to take. We definitely want to do it; we're heavily overpaying for satellite service and for the most part, the shows we keep on the DVR can be accessed on other services.
Here's what I can tell you:
We're using an Amazon Fire TV Stick.
We're getting an HDTV antenna for local channels, so watching local channels live via the streaming service isn't a big deal. Accessing certain network TV shows later would be somewhat important, but we don't need live access to local channels.
We're still somewhat debating having "live TV" vs. accessing an on-demand backlog (like Hulu or Netflix). If some service had the ability to do both that'd be great, and we might consider signing up 2 or 3 services (we're already on Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Video via Prime). But we don't wanna eventually end up paying per month what we're paying for satellite TV.
Having Royals games (therefore, Fox Sports KC) would be important. Other than that, sports channels aren't necessary. But we would be willing to pay for sports channels (provided they aren't obscenely expensive) to get the Royals games.
That's about all I can think of. We've pretty much decided we're already doing this unless things just don't add up.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
