I find Hogan's look at Hall to be amusing, considering that he never put Sting over cleanly in WCW.

I find Hogan's look at Hall to be amusing, considering that he never put Sting over cleanly in WCW. Hogan, who didn’t lose cleanly and f***ed up Sting’s big Starrcade 97 moment, and Hall and Nash, who ended Goldberg’s streak with some bullshit. That said, Sting should have went over, and no other outcome should have even been considered. I just remember the deflation in the room when my best friend since childhood and I watched our all-time favorite wrestler lose his first ever WWE match.

That match capped off a terrible Mania for me. One of the worst booked matches of all time and I felt so bad for Sting who did his best trying to give the match some story only for HHH and the WWE to talk it up like a WWE vs WCW feud instead.

I loved things about it for the pure nostalgia of seeing DX vs the nWo (...and Sting). That was a match they should've made happen when they had the chance, so it was a cool moment to see all these childhood mega stars out there fighting, with Hall taking an unexpected bump and all. The actual match was alright, then it just became a convoluted mess, and then the outcome of HHH going over and then shaking Sting's hand after it all was just stupid.

Hulk: WELL LET ME TELL YA SOMETHING, MEAN GENE!! SEE HHH JUST WENT FOR HIMSELF! SEE STING IS A NICE GUY AND ALL BUT, IF IT WAS ME? I BE LIKE, "SURE DUDE, BUT YA GOTTA DO THE SAME FOR ME, BECAUSE THAT'S HOW YOU DO BUSINESS, JACK!" I PUT OVER EVERYONE IN THE WCW, BROTHER!! LIKE STING, GOLDBERG AND KIDMAN!! AND NOT ONCE DID I ASK FOR MY WIN BACK, BESIDES THEY NEVER DREW BEFORE I CAME THERE ANYWAY!! I MEAN, I HAD 200,000 SCREAMING MANIACS, THAT I HAD TO PERSONALLY HOLD BACK, IN THE GEORGIA SUPERSILVER WATCH ME AS I PINNED GOLDBERG AND HE DIED THE NEXT DAY!!!!

I just looked over at my buddy when Sting lost and we just shook our heads. Didn't even verbally acknowledge it. Just sat there in disgust.

Eh the run ins made no sense but they were fun, the match was great and the result was never going to hurt or enhance either guy either way. I really liked it.
Hall and Hogan with some very selective standards there.

While the Mania itself was crap anyway this match just put me in a sour mood for the rest of the show.
Also JBL's commentary didn't help

The only good things that happened at that Mania were Bryan winning, Cena winning (long term), and Rollins winning.
It was not a good Mania.

The way I see it the first time they negotiated Sting was willing to job to Undertaker on WrestleMania but he obviously wanted a win back and championship run on top of some good prize money. Since that didn't work out the second time they met WWE just poured a bucket of hundred dollar bills on him and he signed right away.

They can end the match any way they want, but HHH was never as big as Sting and DX wasn't the as big as the NWO. I understand Vince writes history these days, and if he didn't create it it's second rate. The whole thing was shameless bravado.

I mean, really it makes sense given the circumstances. Triple H hadn't won a match in years, they wanted to do the Rock segment later, and at the time Sting didn't have anything in place to put in further appearances with them. They probably should've thought better of the whole thing to begin with since Sting's first WWE match really should not have been a loss but given how things were when it came together I understand the move.

Sting vs. Bray Wyatt was right there. Put Taker vs. Lesnar as the mania rematch, Roman vs. HHH and Sting vs. Wyatt. Sting vs. Wyatt with Sting winning Taker vs. Lesnar Roman vs. HHH Was better than: Taker vs. Wyatt HHH vs Sting Lesnar vs. Reigns

I really didn't hate Stings run but in retrospect, I wish he had gone to NXT Takeovers instead.

I think I would be less sour on the result if the announce team hadn't spent the entire match going on about WCW vs WWE, especially when Sting's first promo had him say right off the bat that it had nothing to do with WCW as that company had been gone for 15 years and he'd moved on. Vince just couldn't help himself to do one last dance on WCW's corpse.
Also, while I get the NWO were all stars, it made no sense for them to help Sting out apart from maybe Nash because of the Wolfpac (though I let this slide because most of Sting's buds wouldn't have the same impact).

Well they were going to have Lex Luger help Sting but, there was a whole list of problems. First, Luger didn't know if Vince could afford to pay him. Then after they straightened that out the shirt they gave him was to tight. Finally, after getting a shirt that fits, he was all set to help Sting but, the door was locked and he couldn't get out. So, they went with the NWO instead.
