Hey guys! To anyone that's a fan of the TV show, I always wondered:. If you were Carla, who did you like better? Was it Diane or Rebecca? Being a fan for years, I would assume she liked Rebecca better

Rebecca, totally different attitude and someone Carla could actually understand.

Yeah, it's 100% Rebecca. Carla seems to hate everyone equally, outside of Sam, but her hatred for Diane was another level.

Yeah, it's 100% Rebecca. Carla seems to hate everyone equally, outside of Sam, but her hatred for Diane was another level. Can't say I blame her really. Diane was a hypocritical, two-faced snob that the show was better without. Some episodes dragged because of her behaviour. Once she was gone and Rebecca and Fraiser were used more, the show really became so much more enjoyable.

It's definitely Rebecca. Carla treated Rebecca like crap some episodes, but she did that for every character, even Sam. But there was more tension between Diane and Carla. Carla always saw through Diane with how she always tried to act better than it all. There was an episode where I think Diane acts like she's leaving for good and tells Carla off. Then Carla says now she's beginning to like her.
The only thing I didn't like in the Rebecca years was how they had to dumb down Sam. They made it like he couldn't even run a bar without Rebecca, even though he did that for what 10 years before. Other than that, more Frasier and more Lilith.

Carla HATED Diane. She went out of her way to make Diane's life a living hell. She tolerated Rebecca and was even friendly with her from time to time. The real question is..was she more comfortable hanging out with Cliff rather than Diane? Yeah, it's 100% Rebecca. Carla seems to hate everyone equally, outside of Sam, but her hatred for Diane was another level. I'd say her hatred is as shown from least to most; Sam Coach Norm Woody Paul (until she f***s him) Fraiser/Lilith Rebecca Cliff Diane Can't say I blame her really. Diane was a hypocritical, two-faced snob that the show was better without. Some episodes dragged because of her behaviour. Once she was gone and Rebecca and Fraiser were used more, the show really became so much more enjoyable. I wouldn't say she was two-faced, but definitely hypocritical. However the Cheers gang did dogpile her from time to time. I disagree that the show was better without her, as it lost that dynamic. I will say that Diane had to leave the show though since you basically explored all there was with Sam and Diane. The show had a difficult time finding it's footing right away, and Rebecca sucked until they decided to flip her character. The pros and cons of the latter seasons is you saw more explored with the extended cast. The con of this is a lot of time, Sam took a backseat to it.

Yeah, I think overall Diane was a slightly better character just because in the last 2 seasons it seemed like they weren't sure what they wanted Rebecca to be. I agree with Mizerable that Diane left at the perfect time, I recently rewatched the entire show and Season 5 was probably my favorite. It feels like they found the right mix of screwball comedy and occasional dramatic beats. That said, I do really enjoy the focus on the bar and the other cast members that happens in the post-Diane years, Fraiser and Lilith always had great episodes and most of Woody's eps were great too.

Carla totally appreciated Rebecca more; Diane was quite pretentious and acted like she always thought that working at Cheers was beneath her. I think that Carla at least appreciated that Rebecca had worked hard to get to her managerial position.
There's a great line I remember Woody had where Carla, quite early on in Rebecca's duration, was complaining about not being able to compete.
Carla: 'It's not fair, why do I always have to work with pretty women with nice clothes and immaculate hair?' Woody: (*genuinely trying to be helpful*) 'Ah, don't worry too much, Carla; it must take them ages to get ready in the morning whereas you look the same with or without makeup and your hair practically combs itself'. Carla: '.....yeah, thanks Woody'. Woody: (*to a customer*) 'Never hurts to spread a little sunshine!'

The real question is..was she more comfortable hanging out with Cliff rather than Diane. I think she "liked" Diane more but was more comfortable with Cliff as weird as that sounds. I wasn't fond of her hatred for Cliff, I thought there was a jokey family like element to it at first, he pissed her off but when it comes down to it she'd have his back. Yet if it was ever like that it turned into real hatred by the end.

I wasn't fond of her hatred for Cliff Yeah, she went to great lengths to physically punish him in ways she wouldn't do with other characters. A lot of the time, it was justifiable. Other times, it was meanspirited...but hey, that's Carla for ya. Not that she was a bad character, but she was probably my least favorite of the gang just because she had very little that was redeemable about her.
