Is there really that much "homegrown talent" left in Impact left to protect, though? Eli Drake is about the only person I can think of, and his losing to Mysterio isn't really going to be as disastrous as AJ losing to RVD, or Joe to Angle, as Impact really doesn't have much of an identity left to protect at this point. They pretty much are going to have to rebuild their roster from the ground up, and Rey Mysterio is still a name that's going to draw more interest than a lot of the former WWE midcarers floating around the Indy universe. That’s the key part of all this and something I have said for a while. 95% of the Impact roster are people who do way more indie dates a year and have commitments to other places than they do Impact and the only real thing Impact offers is more TV. That’s it. Like, I know we have running gags about people being desperate about going to TNA because they have nothing else but right now it’s the opposite. TNA needs them because if they all went, the roster would just be Abyss, Josh Matthews and Kongo Kong. And Kongo Kong will literally work for a ham sandwich.

At this point they got nothing else to lean on but to replicate LU roster.

Rey allegedly charges like ten grand for appearance. Impact is bleeding money and they're gonna spend it on a guy who will only be there for a few weeks?
LOLTNA. They still believe the answer is former wwe stars. Bitch you had Kurt Angle and Jeff Hardy and it didn't drew shit.

Not a big deal in a bad way. D'Amore and Callis have said a bunch of smart stuff, last thing they want it to be is WWE-Lite. Impact's going to be based around 6 main stars with a territory-style shuffling of talent around them to keep everybody else fresh. Similar to 1990s All Japan and ECW.
They aren't going to build around Rey long-term or job everyone out to him (unless he's one of those 6 stars.)
They're probably just going to bring him in for a couple tapings and put somebody over at the end.

Rey Mysterio...
In 2018...
Seriously?
Even if it's for one taping block, it would be such a Dixie move to do.

Mysterio can still be a solid guy in the ring and he is a legend. I have no idea what they will pay him so he might not be worth it but given their current roster, I wouldn't blame them for at least pursuing him. Rey has been able to remain somewhat healthy since moving to a reduced schedule.

IMPACT-REY UPDATE, IMPACT TAPING NIGHT TWO IN ORLANDO, CALLIS & D'AMORE FACE THE MEDIA AND MORE by Mike Johnson @ 9:24 AM on 1/11/2018
As we reported on Monday in the Elite section of PWInsider.com, Impact Wrestling had been trying to lock in Rey Mysterio to debut at this week's tapings. According to a source close to Mysterio, at one point the deal was close enough that travel had been arranged for the tapings but the agreement fell through. We are told Mysterio is traveling to Mexico shortly and won't be appearing at the tapings.
Impact is taping night two of their six night's worth of TV tapings at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida tonight.
Don Callis and Scott D'Amore are taking part in a media conference call at 10 AM Eastern. We will have complete coverage shortly.

Guess they agreed to hire his son too, then. Wasn't the reason he turned down the WWE offer that they refused to hire Dominick? I wasn’t even aware that Dominick wrestled. That’s kinda neat.

He'll appear at Raw 25 or in The Rumble. Mark my words, or don't mark them.
