Right now, I'm doing what so many do in open-world games, which is just hunting for collectibles and doing the side-quests. And this is one of the better games that I've played with regards to how well it helps keep track of what you've gotten in each area.

Agreed since I just got the game this week I only got up to the first explorable area yesterday and spent mostly all day just combing through that area and it rewards you to search and explore

f*** Magni and Modi. That is all. That fight was a lot of fun. It was a bitch and a half, but a fun challenge in which I died multiple times. All worth it for Sindri’s response in the aftermath.

This game keeps exceeding my expectations {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler} When Athena popped back up on Kratos way back home in the boat holy shit {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler} Amusingly, I also hit that part last night. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}I’m currently stuck in Helheim trying to get to the bridge. There’s a puzzle that I’m having trouble figuring out.

Just finished it. What an absolute masterpiece of a game. This series should be the new bellcow of the PlayStation franchise.

If I may,what is so good about the game? If you played the previous God of Wars their is a lot of little nuggets that go back to the last series that's enjoyable However, even if you haven't played the games this game in particular does a lot of things very well. It's challenging but fair and I say that as i'm half way through the game and fought some fun bosses The side quest fit perfectly into the game and is not something that feels to make the game padded. The combat is tremendous and their is a weight crunchiness (if that makes sense) to Kratos strikes and how he fights enemies The game rewards you for exploring around the land and when you advance a level with Kratos it feels well earned and the power you get makes you feel like you can take down anything until something else with a higher power level comes along and now you look forward to coming back to fight it when you are properly leveled And last but not least the story. Everything about it is amazing (as I said i'm only half way through). Kratos trying to be a father but also being haunted by his past is a recurring theme throughout the game. Artreus, his son is filled with knowledge and feels like a vital part of the game instead of a companion to help you with fights. Everything in this game is a lesson for his son. The side characters are great as well with a foul mouth dwarf and a wisdom God being 2 of my favorite characters in here

As I go further into this game somehow Odin is more a dick than Zeus was
Didn't think that would be possible

If I may,what is so good about the game? 1: It looks amazing. 2: The story of father and son becoming closer over a journey is excellent. 3: Fun combat. Hard but not brutal. It's a good feeling when you learn how to fight. I started the game by spamming axe throws, and come the end I'm stringing together combos like a boss. 4: The dwarf brothers are some of my favorite NPC's ever.

HAVEN'T PLAYED YET SO PLEASE NO SPOILERS...
Quick question, if I've only played (and completed) GoW 1, 2 and 3 am I all caught up on the story? Or is there stuff from the portable games that enrich the experience?

Essentially yes, you are caught up if you played the main games It's more about focusing on Kratos new world than going back into his old one

I want to preface this by saying I do love this game, but it's another one of those games where there is an area Kratos could easily climb over or crawl up but you just can't because they only want you to get there a certain way.

That's up there with one of the best moments of gaming this year. {Spoiler} The fact that his hands shook before he even took the blades is just a simple indication of how much Kratos has changed. Before he would have grabbed it with no problem and f***ed shit up but he wants to leave that past behind {Spoiler}
