So,and no offence meant, that is not what I was talking about when I created this thread. I was specifically talking about talent wearing shirts that had the an IP from a property outside of wrestling or sports on it. Dude, your only qualification was "non-wrestling related" - please don't be admonishing the other posters for giving examples that fall within your own guidelines. The shirt was a mass-marketed meme shirt that completely qualifies for that. Sorry about that. Yes from the title it does qualify.

All I know is there's a distinct lack of evil heels wearing comfy sweaters these days: The cool thing about that photo is that it kinda looks as though that cobra on the sign in the background is singing.

Dusty Rhodes in the shirt with the cover from Rumors is the best. The juxtaposition of Dusty Rhodes and Fleetwood Mac.

I’ve wondered sometimes how he got away with the Sandman shirt. It’s a fairly well known property, he wore it on national TV, and I can’t imagine Neil Gaiman or DC gave them permission.... Probably because there's nothing illegal about wearing a shirt you bought with your own money. I also can't imagine Neil Gaiman is the sort to flip out over something so trivial. Free promotion is never a bad thing. Gaiman has commented positively about Darlene having Sandman posters in her room on the sitcom Roseanne.

The absolute best example of this thread is when Brian Pillman came out on Raw in a shirt that said "Don't Annoy the Crazy Person". Pillman had another awesome one that had a half normal yellow smiley/half creepy looking skull smiley. I found the exact shirt online in about 2006/2007, but didn’t buy it. Tried looking again sometime later, but couldn’t find it and now I’m too old to wear those kind of shirts Edit: This one... There are some similar shirts floating around online that are nearly identical, but I think this one is definitely the best of the bunch.

Or on the way to the ring. Just watched Starrcade 97 and Raven wore a Dinosaur Jr shirt to the ring. I miss that kind of thing. I’ve wondered sometimes how he got away with the Sandman shirt. It’s a fairly well known property, he wore it on national TV, and I can’t imagine Neil Gaiman or DC gave them permission.... DC Comics and WCW were both under the Time Warner umbrella. It's actually one of the only examples of corporate synergy WCW accomplished outside of WCW wrestlers appearing on TBS' Dinner and a Movie.

I actually miss this for another reason.
In a lot of ways, you could always tell a lot about a person through their clothes.
In an era where it's difficult to stand out when you're trying to make a name for yourself, I think it would be smart to wear a shirt that defines your personality.
Seriously just seeing those Pillman and shirts, that's exactly the kind of thing you need to showcase as an extension of who you are.

Think this is why I was drawn to the Raven character, because I read Sandman, Daredevil, Dr. Strange, et. al, and listened to most of the bands he wore shirts of.

Look, I completely understand why guys wear their own shirts. It makes perfect sense. The best way to let the viewer watching at home know that Seth Rollins has a new shirt is for Seth to wear it on TV.
But it makes everything so damn cookie-cutter.
Meltzer and Alvarez talk a lot about guys being wrestlers or guys “playing pro wrestler” and that distinction is what separates guys from being good at what they do and being average or worse. For me, wearing your own shirt reeks of “playing pro wrestler.” It’s unnatural. It’s contrived.
It reminds me of when an athlete does a commercial and for whatever reason, he’s wearing his hockey jersey while going to the bank.
