Apparently my wife took our youngest to go pick up dinner at Bob Evans. She gave him the cash and let him go in by himself. This is something we haven’t done a lot because he is on the spectrum and still gets uncomfortable around strangers.
A few minutes later she gets a text from him saying that he overheard an older couple complaining to the manager over their service because the server brought them the wrong salad and that they stiffed her on the tip. He wanted to know if it was okay to give the stuffed waitress his change (about $2.50) since he felt she didn’t deserve that.
I think I might have done something right while raising him.

That kindness and consideration is rare. You're doing a great job.

Two thumbs up; raising a kid to not only have empathy for others but to also try & do something about a thing they perceive to be wrong is definitely getting parenting right.
(Also, for him to be able to approach the waitress to give her the money, in a situation where he was probably already pretty uncomfortable and outside his comfort zone, is fantastic as well.)

Very sweet of him to do, and that's also a huge thing, especially being out of his comfort zone.

Kudos, my friend - there's absolutely nothing to fault about this story. Your son is polite, kind and considerate. Job done!

Spectrum parent fist bump.
It always makes me smile when I see a kid on the spectrum do stuff like that, because I know how much work it took to get them to that point. I don't think mine would have thought to do what yours did. He's kind of at that age where the Autism behaviors look a whole lot like pre-teen angst, so we're constantly second-guessing ourselves.

Dr. T is an alien, I remember a lot of your posts here three years ago about stuff in your life and I've always remembered that you weren't just a great parent but a great man.
