Her getting pushed so hard is surprising, in retrospect. Normally women don't get the rocket strapped to them like that. Was there ever any reason why given? Did Vince like her? There was a lot of talk from a lot of different people that Vince was initially taken by AJ after the Daniel Bryan angle, he saw her in the same light he saw Miss Elizabeth apparently and wanted to make her just as featured & as endeared as Elizabeth was. And what better way to do that than to show her as vindictive and mentally unstable. That's definitely a character I can root for.

the Women's revolution was already in full swing on NXT. Which is what actually started this. edit: also the "givedivasachance" hashtag happened a day before AJ's response But, AJ's tweet about how the women were being treated and the publicity and attention it garnered from other news outlets were also key. At that point, WWE couldn't just ignore it and hope that things would die down eventually as they've done in the past. WWE had to do something to save face. AJ's tweet and the attention it garnered, the poor treatment of the main roster women, the rise of the NXT girls, it was all a "perfect storm". Yeah, AJ's not the sole cause or anything, but her tweet definitely had some impact on turning things around. Stephanie keeps trying to put herself in front of all the progress now because she got a lot of shit for her statement after AJ publicly aired her out like that. It's not like AJ changed the world, but she took a big step that she didn't necessarily have to take to put Stephanie on blast and hopefully get something done.

Personally, I don't think either one deserves credit, and I don't know why it really matters. It's much more of a reflection on changing social norms in terms of the acceptance of a female athlete as an athlete first than anyone starting anything.

There’s nothing that gives me more tiredhead than The Who started the women’s revolution discussion. It was a combination of factors. All that matters is, although still not perfect, the women are getting a fairer shake on the main roster.

AJ's point was a load of shit though cuz AJ was really the only one who had any real success comparable to the men in terms of merch and whatnot. No one was buying Kaitlyn shirts. AJ also didn't exactly put over anyone on her way out the door. Talking up some NXT women in a Slammy speech doesn't cut it. What would cut it then? Because I think Paige wouldn't have had the start she did without AJ. And then AJ came back for a month to set up a perfectly fine little Wrestlemania feud where Paige worked 98% of the match. She didn't have to do that, I'd imagine. By that point, she was absent from TV long enough and her body was at risk enough that she could have just peaced out. The Bellas, especially Nikki, wouldn't have a narrative to build themselves around without AJ Lee's shoot promo. AJ didn't cone out great from that feud at all but Nikki beat her twice for the Divas title. That's pretty much when the mythołogizing of Nikki as a legend began. In a small way, her wearing Bayley's shirt in her last match is very much going out of your way to put someone over. As is talking about other people when you just won an award. And I still say that Kaitlyn vs AJ is the best women's feud in the last several years because it was good and the commentary team didn't have to scream about it being good. AJ didn't book her segments. She had no pull. She tried to get just three minutes in a HIAC and was repeatedly rebuffed. But even then, she absolutely had a positive impact on the careers of other women. There’s nothing that gives me more tiredhead than The Who started the women’s revolution discussion. It was a combination of factors. All that matters is, although still not perfect, the women are getting a fairer shake on the main roster. Occasionally, just before going back to licking Stephanie, WWE will get it right: a lot of women played a part in the progress we see today. And that includes AJ and it includes Nikki, even though I just slagged her. I'm glad that WWE are starting to treat women of the past with respect. The first thing they tried where only the NXT4 mattered was making me resentful.

Lets get rid of the revisionist history, AJ Lee started the Women's Revolution. AJ started all revolutions. In fact, I think we should create a hashtag for it. I can't think of one though. I'm pretty sure fighting over Mickie James is what started the American Revolution.

I've little doubt the public embarrassing of Steph is a big factor in the women's revolution actually being taken seriously, rather than being a three month grab for attention before returning to being buried at the foot of the card. Sad as it is, public embarrassment is the only way to get change to stick for any length of time in the WWE.
They were spending a lot of money on building up Steph's public image, having a current talent come out and criticise her without doing anything to address the criticism would make turning her into a celebrity empowered businesswoman even more of an uphill battle.

It’s as though she was the best and still got no meaningful recognition. They once based a WWE Title feud over who AJ had the hots for, and she beat the entire women's roster in a title match at Wrestlemania. They may have been ignoring the women's roster but AJ got a super-push that would make Roman nod in respect. Thank you! Not to mention that AJ cut a promo that essentially buried the entire goddamn division as a bunch of untalented reality tv whores while bragging about how she....ruled the women's division. God, the "pipebombshell" was f***ing stupid
