I'm thinking a la the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, except whoever the fans vote for automatically goes in instead of just becoming a nominee (because if they didn't, WWE would just ignore the result & not put them in).
Thoughts?

Too many hurdles with that one, I think. With a write-in vote, you have to worry about a bunch of idiots trying to write in Benoit's name, or people writing in workers the WWE isn't on good terms with. And if WWE is providing the voting options themselves, what's really the point?

There would definitely be quality control issues. In an ideal world WWE could provide a shortlist of reasonable choices for people to choose from, but having seen the voting options they give fans in polls I have no confidence in that.
(I admit I mostly want this just because it's the only way I see Christian getting in.)

(I admit I mostly want this just because it's the only way I see Christian getting in.) If you're going to do a fan vote, bare minimum you'd have to use the simple non-answer of "When we said the Four Horsemen went in, we meant every member of the Four Horsemen" (so they could say "nope, Benoit already went in as a Four Horsemen member in 2012, so we don't have to induct him anymore". And if it means Mongo McMichael and Paul Roma can say they're Hall of Famers...well, good for them. The only other possible way to do the fan vote after that obvious rule patch to make sure things would be as troll-proof as possible would be to use the way the HOF voting seems to go recently of "one headliner, one tag team, one woman, one celebrity, one midcard-level guy, one "OH MY GOD." inductee, and one posthumous inductee", then let the fans choose the posthumous inductee from a list of deceased wrestlers. That way, you don't really have that many people who'd truly be a troll move to have them inducted (Chris Benoit would have been covered by this one), and the WWE can vet the list from people who's next of kin have agreed to be inducted if they're elected.

Kelly Kelly would get voted in so decisively, Mason Ryan would get in too by mistake.

You would have to have a shortlist of preselected choices.

It might be worth it for the bewildered induction speeches.

Wait, are fan votes for the R&R HOF just random bands/singers based on whomever wins the popular vote? I thought they would offer a list of certain performers and the fans would vote from that on who would go in....
That could work for the WWE HOF, however it'd be a very safe list.
Probably too problematic. It'd mean all the names (estates, in the case of dead wrestlers) would have to approve being on the list, would have to be ok with the idea of hype determining their entry (imagine the angst from wrestlers who wanted to go in losing the vote, thereby causing a rift where they never go in), and (maybe most importantly) to avoid a winner being someone who does not want to go in the HOF in the 1st place.

In regards to the R&R HOF, the fans vote online from the list of fifteen to twenty nominated acts/bands as selected by the nominating committee. They are asked to choose five acts/bands and are able to vote once per day. The top five vote earners become one ballot and are tallied with the rest of the votes. The problem is that the rest of the voting body consists of over nine hundred voters who are R&R HOF members and music media related people. So our vote hardly matters unless some of the nine hundred plus consider our views when filling out their ballots. But there's also a lot of politics and strategy going on. Radiohead was eligible for the first time this year and didn't get chosen. One reason is that people largely assumed they were a lock to get in and so they voted for someone else. Another reason is that the voting body, both members and the fans online are much older than the 90s generation. So they were more likely to vote for older acts. Also it probably didn't help that Radiohead, unlike most acts, shunned the HOF. They even went so far as to schedule a concert in South America on the night of the induction ceremony. So even if they were chosen, they wouldn't have been there for the induction. That too might have led to some strategic voting. People are probably hoping that their stance softens this year and they get nominated again. WWE doesn't have the depth of acts that music has over the years. Add to that the estates rejecting being on the list (as you said) or not being on good terms with WWE and the idea becomes severely limited. The biggest problem from the fan side would be our strategy. We as voters would be stupid enough to pick the Rock, William Regal, and Chris Jericho. Given that WWE would induct them anyways, it would be wasted votes. If our votes mattered, we'd do better picking people like Gary Hart, Adrian Adonis, or Leilani Kai.
