TNT had Sunday Night Football from 1990 to 1997 so relationships developed between NFL players and the people at Turner. There was always players in the front row, likely given those seats by the network. It would eventually lead to players having more active roles on their other shows, WCW programing being the most obvious since it seemed the players were for the most part fans.

Idt we'll ever see current NFL players work matches ever again. Imagine had Reggie White got injured during that Mongo match. Most if not all players have clauses in their contracts preventing them from doing dangerous physical things in their spare time. So we’ll likely never see it again from a current player.

Adam Jones is good example of this. Couldn't do anything in tna except throw a football and pin someone. ( I forget who the beat for the belts) Edit: he threw money at hebner didn't pin no one.

I always thought Kevin Greene was a pretty good wrestler. Yeah, for his level of experience, he was far better than he had any right to be. He seemed to pick it up pretty easily and probably could have been a decent wrestler if he wanted to do it full time

I can't remember his name, but a current NFL player worked Bound For Glory last year and was actually pretty fantastic. As said Williams wasn't under contract with anybody. TNA made a huge mistake with Pacman Jones trying to get him to wrestle but the NFL wouldn't allow him to take a bump. Somehow made him tag champions but it did give us the man who became Xavier Woods.

I'm fairly certain Mojo Rawley based his whole character on Kevin Green in WCW.

The difference with the Pacman situation vs. Deangelo Williams is Pacman was still technically under contract with the Titans, just extra-super-turbo suspended at the time.

Despite being one of the biggest wrestling fans around I have never gotten interested in other things just because a wrestlers was involved. I think that mostly go the other way too for fans of other sports.
I'll die a happy man when the wrestling industry finally realises that.

The '90s were still the days when most football players had the kind of physique that wrestling promoters were used to (big hosses, but athletic).
Nowadays, much like wrestlers most football players......almost seem leaner, more in shape - and possibly more prone to injury (both on the field and in a wrestling ring)? I dunno, not trying to diss current athletic physiologies, but it seems like stuff regarding sports nutrition and such have changed.

Having Reggie White vs Mongo in the Carolinas and not Chicago or Milwaukee was easy money thrown away.
