Shogun has himself a new opponent for the card in Germany next Sunday: Anthony "Lionheart" Smith, fresh of retiring Rashad Evans. Hate to be pedantic but that was announced several weeks ago. Though DC said if Shogun wins he wants to fight him.

UFC is reportedly going to book Woodley vs. Till and strip Covington of his interim title because he won't agree to fight Woodley in September.

UFC is quick to make interim titles and very quick to strip interim championships. Covington have some kind of injury or does he just not want to fight? His last fight was a good while ago and he won easily so it's not like he's had no recovery time.

They don’t mean a damn thing to casuals, because there’s just too f***ing many. Hell, I follow MMA VERY closely, and I’m struggling to think of all the Champs and Interim Champs.

There was zero reason for Covington-RDA to even be for an interim title. The winner was obviously going to be the next title challenger anyway. It made zero sense.

Without looking it up: Daniel Cormier at Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight Robert Whittaker at Middleweight Tyron Woodley at Welterweight with Colby Covington as Interim Khabib Nurmagomedov at Lightweight Max Holloway at Featherweight TJ Dillashaw at Bantamweight Demetrious Johnson at Flyweight Cristiane "Cyborg" Justino at Women's Featherweight Amanda Nunes at Women's Bantamweight Nicco Montano at Women's Flyweight Rose Namajunas at Women's Strawweight

All the fights at UFC Hamburg that I've seen so far haven't been boring but they've all gone to decision. And I think only two fights are left.

Well at this point Struve is a lost cause as he is never going to figure out how to use his height and reach. And wow that was a Scary KO.

If Struve gets cut I can't wait until he shows up in some whacky freak show Bellator fights.

Smith knocks out Rashad and Shogun back to back before calling out Gus who promptly pulls out a few hours later...
We might possibly see Cormier vs. Smith. Who else is left at 205 that can challenge Cormier?

And Cormier has now told Gustafsson to f*** off. Idk, I dislike DC more and more every time I hear him talk (or read what he writes). Take that holier than thou letter and shove it.

Sometimes I see the expansion of divisions associated too much with the devaluing of titles. Aside from Women's Featherweight (which was silly because they just never signed enough fighters), all the other divisions make sense to have. I know people have a nostalgia for the era of five divisions, but think of all the great fights and draws they have gotten out of 145 and 135 (both of them). And just because we haven't seen a killer flyweight feud doesn't mean it can't draw. Middleweight and Lightweight in the UFC took years to develop into strong divisions. My main issue is the massive expansion of interim titles and the horrible booking strategies of theirs (Cormier and McGregor basically shutting down multiple divisions at once) and the way they booked the middleweight division. Think about this (and I know not ALL of this is in their control but still), each of these divisions: LHW, MW, WW, LW, and FW (men and women) has had a champion lose the title via a method other than losing a fight in the past five years. It's hard to look at fighters at the best in their class when they haven't beaten the best. No one beat GSP, Conor, or Jones. Various reasons as to why, but it sucks that this is what it has come to.
