I asked this in the "Final Grades" thread, but got no answer.
Someone said that they didn't have to pay a dime for college because they live with a single parent. So financial aid covered it all 100% so far through 3 years of college.
So my question is, is this true for ALL students living with a single parent? Because if so, that would be AWESOME when I transfer out of Community College.

A lot depends on your grade point average, actual income for your family and what grants are available. It's definately worth checking into.

I'd suggest trying to get as many schlorships as possible. No matter what your GPA or anything like that is, there are always a bunch of untouched schlorships that nobody goes for. Thats what I did and it took a lot of money of my tuition.

First try for every grant and scholarship you can.
Aid all depends on family income. Below a certain level and they cover most (if not all) of your costs. Above that and they only cover a certain amount. At a certain level, they don't pay a dime although you can still get loans.

That was me that said it. I think if your in a single parent home, you will qualify, BUT it depends on the household income how much you will be awarded. You also have to be willing to put up with a lot of paper work, etc. But my mom does it all when she has time at work, as shes a legal assistant and wants to check over everything herself. Fine by me.
For me, im in my 3rd year of a community college and Ive had every semester covered so far and each time have gotten a check back with some left over.
When I move to a University, it will be a different story. It may not cover everything, but it will cover a good chunk at least.

I'm starting my fourth semester at college and haven't paid one cent. In fact, I usually wind up getting a 1,000 dollar check at the end of the semester.
I live with my dad, who's handicapped.

Single parent "heads of households" have a favorable tax status, so you will likely qualify for lots of laons unless your parent is rather wealthy. But this doesn't correlate to extra grants or scholarships, and loans have to be paid back.
