I was watching 'The Dead Zone', and I remembered that Walken was actually a really good actor.
It seems like he's been almost a joke for a long time, though.
When did this happen?
Was it one moment? The endless lame impressions?
What?

I think it happens to most of the great ones as they age, and have had all the success they stop acting and just start showing up in a movie and playing them as a character.. may be as much a fault of those that cast them/ directors etc. " Just be you."
Pacino does it, and my all time favorite Jack Nicholson does it for sure.

Peoples may have picked up on his wonderfulness of a voice during Pulp Fiction and the whole 'watch' scene. Until then, you never heard as many of the bad impressions of his voice. But, Deer Hunter remains his best role, followed by Joe Dirt, in my funky opinion.

Once he hit SNL and started spoofing himself, I think it became more prevalent, but I still dig him as an actor.

I was gonna say when he appeared in that Fatboy Slim video.
My favourite Walken film is Communion.
