The Battlebots YouTube channel has put up some unaired fights this morning, including 2 tag matches and a grudge match between Duck! and Gigabyte: www.youtube.com/user/battlebotsEDIT: After watching it, I can see why that one tag match was turned into a Jurassic World ad. Holy hell, that was bad.

Think some of those fights would have been better off STAYING in the basement.
Also, those two fights of CHOMP showed just how horrible that bot really is. HOW THE HELL DO YOU NOT BEAT BASILISK.

Bumping this thread because season 4 is happening! Battlebots themselves are still being somewhat coy about it, first simply saying they were holding an event in April, but recently have used the language "tv tapings" when trying to sell tickets to the event. There are a lot of teams rumored to be potential participants, at the very least we know these teams are building/upgradings robots, and some of the teams have said they did indeed apply. Here's the mega thread for all the current rumors about season 4 on Reddit: www.reddit.com/r/battlebots/comments/anh6d9/the_battlebots_season_4_rumor_mill/So far the only truly confirmed things, besides the new rules, are that Bite Force is returning to defend their title, and a new Brazilian bot from a team called Equippe Uai!rror has been accepted(though at the time of their announcement for acceptance, they said they were running a crowdfunding campaign to help finish the bot). We also have some teams that confirmed they aren't competing this year. The confirmed bots that won't be showing up are: - Red Devil (Jerome Miles has retired Red Devil to focus on his bot for the Chinese circuit Dragon King, and the replacement team for Red Devil last season, All Black Robotics, won't be back for this season either) - Sharkoprion (Its builder, Ed Robinson, is by his own self admittance, kinda broke, and actually tried to sell Sharkoprion and the rights to the name for the relatively paltry sum of $4000, but there were no takers, so he's instead taken it apart to save room in his work space, plus he has the robot Excelsior(originally named King Koi) for the Chinese circuit he's about to compete with, so filming conflicts rears its head here, damn shame, the best of the alternates last season by a country mile) - Bale Spear (Kinda for the best, it wasn't a really effective design, however, without this team, we wouldn't have had HUGE and some of the other Northeastern teams last season, as they gathered up as many of the teams in the region as they could to all travel together, which allowed HUGE's team to make some last minute finishing touches) - HellaChopper (The meme can finally die, not just because the robot's rumored lethal speeds it required to be effective have been proven to just not be possible with the motors the team was using, but also because the lead builder is a bit of a dick nowadays, pissy about the show no longer being a pure tournament with a show, and now is a show with a tournament, and doesn't like people dressing up as food or pirates) - Stinger (Team Plumb Crazy explained their absence with the always true issue of having to take care of some adulting stuff currently) - Battle Royale with Cheese (Unfortunate, because I actually did think they could have been something had they got the bar to work in the arena, the test box footage proves it works and would have packed a mighty hit) - Two-Headed Death Flamingo (Another of the meme bots(honestly, Stinger, Red Devil, and Sharkopion aside, all the confirmed not appearing robots so far, have been many of the meme machines, I'm noticing), the team just by pure coincidence was doing upgrades for the machine at the same time all the legit returning robots and teams were starting their builds/rebuilds) Speaking of Red Devil, I now own a Battlebot! Or at least several pieces of one. Very shortly after retiring Red Devil, Jerome Miles said he had enough undamaged/salvageable parts to restore Red Devil to its full beauty to keep around the shop as a display bot/to drive around from time to time, and decided to do what a lot of the teams were doing, selling damaged parts to bot-heads like us(funnily enough it was Ed Robinson that started the trend by selling parts of Sharkoprion to do the upgrades he wanted to Sharko(a new wheel system and a flamethrower)), and, well, a bit miffed I kept losing these previous auctions at the last second, I bid on his entire first lot, and...kinda won all of it? Due to it taking longer than expected for the transactions to finalize because eBay and PayPal being eBay and PayPal, he tossed in two additional pieces besides the four initial ones I won. So, the parts I got ended up being: - The left side of Red Devil's saw arm that got obliterated in the Monsoon fight(which paints home how hard and fast Monsoon can hit, because there are several chips all over the arm, which was titanium) - The left side panel to Red Devil's main body that got damaged against Wrecks in season 2(the blow Wrecks got in was a very brief single hit in the footage of the fight, and yet it left two huge gashes, Wrecks' walking system was shit, but its weapon was no joke) - One of the inner hubs that held the tread pods to the tubes that connected them to the main body(it is a solid chunk of aluminum and there is just a massive bite out of it, Jerome doesn't know which spinner did that, just that it happened in season 3, so I'm thinking Valkyrie or Monsoon are the likely culprits) - The sprocket without a chain was from inside one of the tread pods, Jerome doesn't know the exact fight it got damaged, but thinks it was most likely the last chance rumble, so probably when Bombshell uppercut the tread off - The sprocket with chain was the bloody thing that allowed the main body to rotate, and was a part that constantly kept breaking(think of all the times Red Devil was turned "inside out" and couldn't rotate the main body back over, so it could have happened against Wrecks, Bombshell, Monsoon, or even SubZero), so Jerome couldn't figure out when that happened either -And lastly, one of the tread plates themselves. It is bent slightly, and some obvious damage to the thick rubber grips that allowed the robot to have traction, and given the sheer number of hits the tread plates took, this could have been from any fight, but turning the plate over reveals one of the bolts holding the rubber grips in(and thus presumably the plate to the tread chains) was almost completely sheered off, and another one had a decent chunk sheered too, meaning this plate was likely either almost ripped off or was ripped off, potentially making it one of the plates Bombshell hit when they de-treaded Red Devil in the last chance rumble

I'm ok with many of the rule changes, and I even like the increasing of the points for the judging categories, but dropping strategy as a category is kinda lame. Basically it swings the weight back in favor of damage, which means more control-based robots are kinda screwed, and the saw bots are back to being hosed, after the renaissance we saw from them last season. I dunno, I just get the feeling this is the people behind the show being salty as hell that Skorpios was 3-1, despite rather obviously bullying a lot of its opponents and still kicked their asses even after losing use of their weapon. Funnily enough they've just flat out made judging aggression a clusterf*** now. Because, using the Skorpios/Icewave fight as an example, who would take aggression under the new rules? You have Skorpios not attacking with its powered weapon, the saw(which, considering their set up, they should probably just turn into an all purpose grappling arm, ala Overhaul, so they can at least get point considerations for bringing the weapon arm down) and constantly ramming with its armored, wedge face...thing(the team calls it a "dustpan" as well, but yeah, that's a stretch), which would denote it loses comparative aggression points, but they are also constantly putting themselves at risk for damage, running face-first into freaking Icewave's bar, which earns them aggression points back in consideration, but then you have Icewave who is constantly making contact with a powered weapon, but now they have an accidental hitting clause, which I would very much consider any contact the bar made from Skorpios scooping them up and ramming them into the wall, thus forcing the bar into contact with their armor would count as, because it wasn't Icewave intentionally hitting them, that was their weapon making contact because the other robot hit them first, and on top of all of that, you have Icewave doing very clear engagement avoidance to spin up the bar, which absolutely has to deduct aggression points. That fight, which I am almost entirely certain is the cause for so many of the edits to the aggression rules for this season, was a case of the robot going on the constant attack having lost use of their active powered weapon, while the robot with the powered weapon running away to spin up said weapon and the majority of the time it made contact with the weapon it wasn't intentionally driving at the opponent, but simply making contact because the other robot rammed into them. And that now becomes a complete and total mess to judge aggression on. Obviously damage would still go to Icewave and control most certainly should still go to Skorpios, but I really don't know who would technically get the win now due to the rules. Like I get it, the dudes in charge don't want wedge-fests, and neither do a lot of the viewers or even the builders(including the builders of the robots with wedges!), but like you already have all the measures in place you need, the powered weapon rule(much as people like to bitch about DUCK!, its weapon was still a powered lifter, it counts, certainly more than Black Ice's little spinny blades), and the fact that you guys f***ing hand pick the robots now! This isn't an open tournament. It has a selection committee, there is no need for all this confusion over who is an aggressive robot. Just make it the good ol' criteria of who initiated contact more. Otherwise you give a massive advantage to kinetic spinners, because they are constantly going unless you manage to kill the motor or break the belt/chain. Oh yeah, and the no tap out rule being maintained is some bullshit too. If this was still a straight tournament like in the ABC seasons, sure, ok, I get it. Hell I can even accept no tap outs during the Sweet 16 tournament(maybe even the Desparado Tournament if that returns), but during regular Fight Night matches? Come on, allow for tap outs there.

I went cross-eyed reading the aggression part.
Anyhoo, I know from their Twitters that Monsoon, Hypershock, and Witch Doctor will be returning, and Team Whyachi presumably will have Son of Whyachi and whatever the new version of what was Warrior Dragon.

Oh Warrior Dragon has been giving a warrior’s funeral. They have two new bots they’ve been working on, a walking spinner they named Walking Death and a flipper named Hydra. Whyachi’s team could have up to 3 robots this year, and hell, they’ve got enough team members to keep them all in shape.

I get the original SOW had great success as a walker but it better be a damn good spinner or it's going to have issues out the ass. [[[[[[[[[[[[[[[]]]]]]]]]]]]]][[[[[[[[[[[[]]]]]]]]]]]]]]] So going over what has been reported/rumored thus far outside the Team Whyachi stuff and the three I mentioned earlier: - Team Hurtz and Team Nightmare returning = great. Team Hurtz entering a brand new bot without John Reid at the helm and Nightmare itself being retired = not so much. - Craig Danby not bringing Apex is a smart move. I saw the mini version on Bugglebots and it's, uh, it's wretched. Hopefully he does way better than Predator though because that bot was even worse. - Guessing Team Carbide would bring either a revamped Cobalt or simply bring Carbide and give it different paint. Either way, I'm already salivating over this. - Gladiator looks like a Chinese Minotaur. I suppose you're going to see that design copied a lot since it works. Gladiator is supposed to be from one of the best teams in China though so we'll see how it does. - Ragnarok is one of those bots that looks good but doesn't seem like it'd be too effective. Unless that axe is supposed to be more of a clamp. - Ribbot looks like a, uh, uh, a, uh.... What the f*** is this?! - There seems to be a couple of hammers coming in, from Blacksmith (WHICH HOPEFULLY WILL ONCE AGAIN BE SPONSORED BY NUCLEAR BLAST RECORDS, THE #1 INDEPENDANT METAL RECORD LABEL IN THE WORLD!) and newcomers Shatter! and Nelly The Elliebot. - Mammoth looks like an interesting robot but seeing as it takes some inspiration from Nightmare it's lucky that the trend is towards spinners and not flippers. - GHOST. RAPTOR. IS. BACK. - Flipper/grappler + cannons = Gruff. Hopefully their cannons are better than Double Jeopardy (which is aiming for a return).

So this is the team that's fundraising to enter Battlebots
They're asking for R$30,000 (about $8k US) and currently raised R$8,405 (about $2.2k) with 23 days left to go.

Considering Overhaul is such an underwhelming bot and considering how much of a disaster Ultimo Destructo turned out to be, no big loss. To be fair to Overhaul, it has almost always fought really good robots, or at least robots that were meta against them. Reboot season 1 - Lock-Jaw twice, then Bite Force(which was a damn close fight), then Nightmare and Witch Doctor in a rumble(both of whom were meta against it due to grapplers being weak to vert spinners) Reboot season 2 - Cobalt(where they would have likely still lost but literally got screwed by a set screw jamming up their drive, opening them to a massive hit), beta, and then SawBlaze and Road Rash in a rimble(Road Rash is one of the few robots legitimately beneath them they fought, and well SawBlaze is just built to kick their ass as we would see) Reboot season 3 - SawBlaze(again kicked their ass), WAR Hawk(meta against them, and their eternals caught fire), Witch Doctor(also meta), Chomp(only W, and, well, Chomp), and finally Valkyrie(who being a Surgeon General-style spinner who could swap between over and undercutter, allowed them to wreck both the wedge Overhaul was using and decapitate their weapon) Basically it isn’t that Overhaul is bad, they just constantly got shit draws. It was a low-mid-tier robot(due to being a grappler in a rule set and meta that heavily favored spinners), but kept facing solid mid-tier or above robots. Ultimo, tho, is just the shits.

Chomp is interesting because they were accepted for this season as part of the field of 67(I’m a supporter on Facebook so I saw all of the accepted robots), but are pulling out due to pregnancy(there are two women on the team but I am fairly certain it is Zoe herself). Beta makes sense because John Reid is still competing in King of Bots with Tanshe and the rest of the Beta team has entered with a “sister” robot to Spectre from King of Bots called Quantum(revealing that their naming theme is based on Bond films/villain groups), and Beta actually belongs to this team, not John Reid. Warhead also makes sense because of the death of the dome spinner last season, and yet again, freaking King of Bots. Ian Lewis has been a judge on it previously and he likely returned this year.

With filming about to begin, the teams are finally arriving and prepping their robots and some of these guys look great.
Foxtrot(a repainted and upgraded Foxic) looks gorgeous with a silver/black/aquamarine color scheme.
We also finally get to see Quantum looks like without it’s armor attachments, and it’s...basically Spectre but sexier.
Amusingly, while nearly all the other robots arrived either in shipping crates or traveling trailers, Tombstone was literally brought to the event strapped in the bed of a pickup truck(along with a spare frame, I think the one from seasons 2 and 3, cause it has the old grey panels on it instead of the sexy jet black panels of the season 4 frame).
Oh yeah and Double Jeopardy did several upgrades. In addition to their air cannon now being capable of firing two shots, they have a wedge so they can actually do something once their ammo runs out, and they added more protection to their wheels.
Edit: We also have our first sighting of the new Cobalt out in the wild. It is, basically Tungsten(though in the shared pic so far they don’t have the axe), but it has Carbide’s black and neon green color scheme(also that gnarly vertical disc they’ve been using as their teaser for the robot is now painted black too).
Edit 2: Also SubZero’s redesign is insane! Too many changes to properly list. It’s basically a completely new robot from the ground up.

Nuclear Blast Records is sponsoring Blacksmith again (and Al Kindle's fellow New Jersey residents, Overkill, just put out a killer new album), and it will apparently include a plate with the label's logo cut out. Which looks cool but hopefully it is set up so it doesn't compromise the armor.

Hopefully the plate isn’t on the top, because... {Spoiler}Battlebots had officially revealed the first three fight session recordings(and in doing so revealing that at the very least the first episode of the season will be 2 hours long(1 hour only for international markets), but considering all the sessions had the same lengths, possible it is 2 hours across the board, so 16 2 hour long episodes would certainly be more fights televised than last season’s 20 1 hour episodes), and Blacksmith is being used as Quantum’s first opponent to see just how good that crusher really is.
I love that Blacksmith has kind of morphed into this gatekeeper role, like X-Pac was. If you can’t have a good match with them, you trash.
