So did anyone else grow up with it? This alongside the Star Fox comic Benimaru Itoh created were some of my biggest reasons for collecting Nintendo Power back in the day. www.viz.com/super-mario-adventures

Honestly its a damn shame Nintendo got such cold feet about doing non-game media about Mario after the disaster of the live action movie, because this got the tone of a Mario story better than any of the cartoon series or the animes. It felt like it belonged the in world he inhabited but enough fun original elements that it wasn't a straight adaptation of the game. Especially in the era of the minimalist platformer, it seemed like the kind of adventures that would happen on the margins of the game.
Its funny, Nintendo had virtually no canon to work with in this period and produced some very interesting comics (SMA, StarFox, Zelda), and now with all sorts new characters, worlds, and stories to draw upon in the last 25 years of franchise works; they see reluctant to do anything with them outside Pokemon and a token manga for something like Metroid or Zelda.

There was a Mario comic book that was pitched to Archie while Sonic and Mega Man were running, but they shot it down. I guess the wheels were in motion for their increased Archie Andrews focus. Shame, because it looked awesome. www.mariowiki.com/List_of_unreleased_media#Archie_Comics_Mario_comic_pitch

I was a NP subscriber for years, I loved the comics they used to run.

I always preferred the Nintendo Comics System Mario comics.
I had one issue where everyone goes to a superhero nerd convention that I still, to this day, think is hilarious.
