I need to find a store local to me. Free Comic Book Day makes me miss living in Chicago. I'd make an all day thing of going to all my favorite comic book stores. Start at Graham Crackers downtown, head uptown to Chicago Comics, then Dark Tower Comics, then finish it up near my place at Challengers. A fun way to waste a Saturday doing the adult nerd equivalent of trick or treating.

Last year, my goal was to get The Loud House comic because it was originally for San Diego Comic Con.
This year... I dunno what I'll get.

I haven't been to a FCBD in years. I'm planning on seeing Infinity War again Saturday, but if I can squeeze in a visit, I know of a couple comic shops nearby.

Geez, I forgot all about this this year. And I was planning on spending my Saturday ordering a pizza and staying in bed all day.
My comic book shop usually has a six comic max. I definitely want the Power Rangers, Tick and Doctor Who comics. I guess I'll play the rest by ear.

Always sounds like too much of a hassle/crowd, especially since the parking at my new shop is lousy to being with.

I stopped by a used bookstore today, and they were letting anyone who made a purchase grab an old comic out of a box. I scored the first issue of Atari Force!

All in TX went from Nederland to Beaumont to Houston.The shop I used for 15 years has mailed out my FCBD issues. Should get them next week. We got a shop in town. No idea how far they really go out for FCBD. I think wall books are on discount. I might stop by later this week see how it went. |

Drove to Rapid City South Dakota. Hit up Storyteller Comics. Got Marvel Rising #0, The Avengers one, Transformers Unicron, Amazing Spider-Man one and Tick.
Also picked up Avengers #1, because I didn't just want to grab the free comics and run.

This year my local store increased its limit from six to ten so I grabbed the three I mentioned in my post above and just a bunch of random others that looked good -
Bongo Free-for-All
Avengers
Spider-Man
Star Wars Adventures
Transformers Unicron
DC Superhero Girls
Adventure Time
So far I've only had a chance to read the Power Rangers, Doctor Who and Tick comics.
The Power Rangers book (which was marketed as a Shattered Grid tie-in) was a decent enough "clip show" type book giving the outline of everything that's happened in the series up until this point.
The Doctor Who book was ok, but most of the stories were too short or incomplete to really get a feel for them. The best one was the Eleventh Doctor story which did feel like a full story with a beginning, middle and ending.
The Tick book left me disappointed. I was really looking forward to it after watching the new Amazon series this year, but the humor of the comic just fell flat for me. The Conan-style story had its moments and the pizza delivery story was ok for a quickie, but the Rubber Ducky story just wasn't all that funny.
The most interesting thing about the Tick comic though is that it includes an advertisement to get them to send you all six of their previous Free Comic Book Day comics if you send them a self-addressed stamped envelope. I have not seen an advertisement like that in more than 20 years and I'm honestly not sure what to make of it.

I picked up a few but haven't had the chance to read any yet. The Transformers: Unicron book piqued my interest, so I'll probably start with that.
Luckily our local library participates every year and actually gets most, if not all, of the books. My closest comic shop is nearly 80 miles away.

Every year I get super hyped when my comic shop is filled with people for this, and super bummed when almost none of them show up again. :-(
Comics are awesome! Don't just show up for the free stuff. :'-(
