Did anyone see the 1986 Filmation's Ghostbusters cartoon? I've never seen it and I actually didn't know it existed until just a few years ago. No, this isn't "Who You Gonna Call" / Slimer Ghostbusters- this is something else altogether.
There was a toy line:
I think the cartoon was eventually released on DVD. I'm temped to track it down.

Yeah, originally filmation was going to make the Ghostbusters cartoon since they owned the rights to the name because of an old kids show called ghost busters.
But I forget what happened. But this was filmation's way of trying to cashin on the movie.

It was based on the original Ghost Busters live-action show from Filmation in the 1970s. When Ghostbusters came along, they paid Filmation for rights to use the name, but then were kinda dicks to them when Filmation asked if they could do the cartoon in return. So Filmation just made their own cartoon, with the children of the old show.
I personally liked the animated revival and especially the toy line. It wasn't as good as the other guys, but I thought they were extremely well-done figures of the time.

BTW, the original three and the main animation trio's last names are Spencer, Tracy and Kong. Spencer Tracy and Kong. And Kong isn't the ape.

One of my earliest WTF reactions was watching the end of one cartoon and the announcer said “coming up next Ghostbusters”.. and I thought cool, then the open credits and then I went “huh?... “
It would be like today if they still did cartoon blocks and any it teased an Avengers cartoon.. kids would be expecting the Marvel series.. but instead it’s a cartoon version of the British series. Actually that would be pretty cool

I had the Jake figure from the Filmation series & he would team with the Real Ghostbusters from time to time until one fateful Friday on night when I decided he would go insane & unleash all the ghosts & bad guys on the world.
It took a team up of the Ghostbusters, Lion-O, He Man, Kup & Blurr to stop them

I watched both cartoons back in the day. I preferred RGB, but FGB had this weird mythology to it with them being second generation ghostbusters and time travel and stuff that my six year old self found interesting. I remember having the Statue of Liberty episode on VHS as a kid for the longest time. It would get a lot of play on those boring Sunday afternoons when nothing else was on TV.
One Christmas I asked Santa for Ghostbuster toys, meaning RGB. Apparently "Santa" wasn't familiar with the difference between the two franchise because I definitely remember getting an Eddie Spencer and Scared Stiff figures.

Having an intervention to reassure Tollbooth he’s not a useless knob 99 percent of the time?

We used to call it Fake Ghostbusters when I was a kid. My cousin had a bunch of the toys. I remember being a fan of them shooting the ghosts instead of catching them.

Always thought that skeleton knight in the rogues' gallery that pops up during the intro looked cool, but I never saw an episode where he was in it to the point that I thought he only appeared in the intro.

I half quite a few of the toys. I used tall bad guy as a monster heel in my action figure league of wrestling.

I remember watching exactly one episode of the cartoon a very long time ago...and thinking it was pretty fun. Never got around to seeing any more.

I watched it when I was about 4 and remember being really confused because even though I hadn't seen the movie. I somehow knew it didn't go with the movie, especially since there was a gorilla.

Oh gosh, I remember seeing the live action show (with Larry Storch and Forrest Tucker) in the early-mid '80s on video once -- one of the first, and thankfully few, examples of my parents getting me something that they thought was what I liked but was not that at all. I watched like 10 mins and felt terrible. It was based on the original Ghost Busters live-action show from Filmation in the 1970s. When Ghostbusters came along, they paid Filmation for rights to use the name, but then were kinda dicks to them when Filmation asked if they could do the cartoon in return. So much so that they threw "THE REAL" in front of their name............ even though the Filmation Ghostbusters were first and could technically claim that word for themselves.

If it hasn't happened already, how long before IDW makes a comic crossover between the Filmation Ghostbusters and the more well known ones?

I think it was First Comics that put out a Filmation Ghostbusters comic.

They have referenced them as apart of the Ghostbusters Multivese. That's some balls. (Though I can see it being done by the writers more as an homage than some ego trip...)
