I know WWE would have difficulty pulling it off effectively, but why not have a G1-style thing in WWE? Each brand gets a block and then the finals are SD vs. RAW with the winner getting a title shot at the Rumble. Here, I'll even make something with eight people on each brand with people active right now (sorry edgestar, that means no Ambrose): RAW: Roman Reigns Braun Strowman Baron Corbin Bobby Lashley Kevin Owens Jinder Mahal Finn Balor Elias SD: Daniel Bryan Shinsuke Nakamura Big Cass Rusev Samoa Joe The Miz Harper Andrade "Cien" Almas Boom. Good mix of main event guys and good midcarders. In fact, if you want to take out obvious main event guys like Reigns or Nakamura and try to put in someone mostly fresh, you could still have something like this: RAW: Baron Corbin Bobby Lashley Kevin Owens Jinder Mahal Elias Bobby Roode Drew McIntyre Finn Balor SD: Rusev Big Cass Harper Cesaro Andrade "Cien" Almas Samoa Joe Jeff Hardy Rowan Now while there would still have to be a couple of guys who are more a main event level talent than the others (Joe, Hardy, Balor), you still have something that gives part of the midcard something major to do and could elevate someone right out of it. So, would anyone else like to see this happen?

I thought this was going to be about an invading force coming in and murdering 90% of the roster and then John Cena dies after a sweet Stan Bush tuned murder montage.
So I'm disappointed.

Sounds like the worst G1 ever.
G1 works for NJPW because it is sold as a big deal and most importantly it feels real. The entire point of WWE is being "sports entertainment", G1 is the definition of wrestling, except for small guys like Toru Yano that just work their gimmick in the tournament.
Also every guy in the G1 is pretty much dead for 2weeks after the event and the WWE guys wont get that time off.

If you let guys go all out it could be fun as WWE has a diverse roster to make it work
However, their tendency to "make it their own" could pose a problem

There's just no way to pull it off logistically.
The WWE schedule is too brutal for their guys to put on G-1 quality matches and still be able to keep on truckin'.

The Kevstaaa actually came up with a similar tourney idea for his rebooking idea on the Forum Games so that's why I think it could be pulled off. Maybe it's not a pure G1 copy but it could be adapted.

I have no idea what is being referred to here at all. It's actually exactly what I thought as well! Clearly some of us showing our age....! It's a reference to the animated Transformers G1 cartoon movie. In it, the Decepticons finally look like they are going to beat the Autobots, and then Optimus Prime arrives to save the day while a Stan Bush song plays (The Touch). Optimus then dies. The 'E has even used Stan Bush before when Punk trolled Johnny Ace with The Touch!

WWE would not have the patience to pull off a G-1 like tournament.

I'm a sucker for tourneys and score based things in wrestling. Devote a summer to this and I'd be down. It's bound to be a hot mess but I'm willing to bet it'd be pretty fun anyways.

The most natural way for WWE to do this would be to have each round on Raw & Smackdown, with the house shows in between being used to let them go lighter. This would hopefully make the schedule less brutal.
However, to me, the allure of the G1 in NJPW is that you get a three week period with over 90 singles matches. This would be lost in WWE where matches Finn vs Seth are pretty typical for Raw, whereas a Omega vs Ishii wouldn't happen at a typical Korakuen show unless it's in a tournament like the G1.
Also, let's be honest, it's a guarantee that we'd be getting stories about Vince changing his mind on who he wants to win. I don't think anyone really has faith in WWE booking to handle actually planning 56/90 (depending on number of wrestlers per block) matches out in advance to lead to a single winner.

To my knowledge WWE has never done a round robin tournament.
