Todd takes a look at one of the more interesting one-hit wonders from the 90s.
Language warning.

Wow! I had no idea he was so huge in Japan! That's pretty cool. He seems like he was a really talented piano player. I'm glad he got to experience some mainstream success.

God, I love this f***ing song. I've always wanted to see someone with balls do this song on something like The Voice.

I’m familiar with this song thanks to Beavis & Butt-Head
“They should have a name for this type of music” “There already is a name for this music, Beavis. It’s called “crap”
Kinda catchy though.

I knew about the big in Japan thing due to a parody video featuring Ultraman and some of the Kaiju from that series. (Sadly it's next to impossible to find on youtube in an unaltered state, but there a few clips from various Japanese TV shows there.)
Because if Ultraman endorses your song that's guaranteed instant Japanese street cred right there.

Yeah that's the one. There used to be a full version of the video online that is longer and w/o laughter and commentary, but I guess it got taken down.

I used to think this guy was a Nazi. I had absolutely no reason to think this from what I can remember. But I always hated the sing because of it.

Weirdly enough, I vaguely remember looking up his songs way, WAY back, like, when youtube was still kind of a "wild west" type place for videos, and yeah, there was a guy who haunted the comments of specifically Scatman John videos posting very weird, very racially charged stuff. Maybe you're remembering that?

This is a great video. Had no idea that he was huge in Japan.
I'll be honest one of my favorite parts of one hit wonderland is Todd's piano cover of the songs, and One Hit Wonderland is probably my favorite video series on YouTube.
