One of the most riotous shows ECW ever held at the historic Queens Elks Lodge, it's one of the more underrated shows during what bell-to-bell was probably ECW's strongest era.
Super hot crowd, storylines in an unpredictable transitional period, and a well-structured well organized show.
1. Jerry Lynn vs Justin Credible 2. Sabu vs Danny Doring 3. Chris Candido vs Jamie Dundee 4. The FBI vs Blue Meanie & Super Nova 5. Lance Storm vs Balls Mahoney 6. Rob Van Dam vs Mikey Whipwreck 7. Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Axl Rotten 8. The Dudley Boys vs Sandman, Tommy Dreamer & Spike Dudley
Anyone else share a fondness for this show?

The Dudleys' pre-match promo was crazy. The fans pelted them with trash, and someone threw a chair down from the balcony into the ring.
The segment was also odd because ECW's home video release of the show left the f-bombs uncensored but muted other words.

I'm not sure where my copy came from, it has all the original music, but there's no bleeps.

I'm not sure where my copy came from, it has all the original music, but there's no bleeps. They just muted the sound, so you didn't hear Bubba/D-Von or the crowd. For example, Bubba says, "Would it help if I told you that I (silence) your mother last night?" I saw the segment on both the Pioneer Entertainment "Best of the Dudleys" DVD, plus on a DVD version of IAS (I think it was released only in the UK). The "best of" version completely silences Bubba for several seconds at one point when he's clearing talking while the DVD of the show has him saying "You're all (silence). Every one of you. You're all (silence)."

Been a while since I listened though.

I don't remember this exact show, but this was the era I followed the closest of ECW and I absolutely loved it.

I saw a promo for it. Not sure if I've seen the actual show though. I want to find old ECW shows and PPVS online but WWE has a grip on those I presume and we're forced to deal with their "cleaned up" versions with shitty replacement music.

I don’t have much to add other then the fact that I loved the shows from that building so much the atmosphere was just awesome I loved them so much that I got me and a friend and his grandpa tickets for the December 98 show there when I accompanied him to New York to visit his grandparents and we had an awesome time and his grandpa had never seen anything like an ecw show he was a fan of wwwf of the 60’s and 70’s Bruno was his favorite but he loved the energy, swearing, violence and he was a big fan of Francine...those were some fun times.

Sounds like an interesting line-up, with only Candido vs. Dundee sounding like a real dog and Storm vs. Mahoney being....a bit baffling of a choice, but yeah, I'd be down to see this.

The Storm vs Balls match made sense for what they where doing at the time Storm & Candido were tag champs feuding with Balls & Axl Lance & Chris screwed them over at wrestlepalooza 2 weeks prior with the help of sunny. While Dundee/Candido was just and excuse for Dundee to do his pre-match burying of the smart fans he did at the house shows and then focus on Francine in that dress.

I used to have a DVD of this show that was completely unedited. I have no idea where I bought it (probably a comics show), nor do I know where it went. GREAT show. I also agree wholeheartedly that this was ECW's best era. I attended 8 ECW shows between November 1997 and August 1998, 4 in Philly, 2 in the Monaca Golden Dome, and 2 at the Rostraver Ice Gardens. Every show was amazing.

Honestly on paper this looks like a really weak card. A lot of squash match, a lot of matches where it's difficult to see the styles meshing, and a main event that was beyond stale at this point. I'm sure Heyman booked enough out of the box things to make it memorable, but just a match listing wouldn't have me all that interested in this show.

It’s weird if you look at a weak wwe card it’s usually a pretty crappy show but ecw back then the card didn’t matter because a ecw Show was 3 hours of fan service and the fans cared about the characters, the matches and the promotion ECW was the biggest babyface in ECW.Unlike today where wwe fans seem to take glee bitching about the product ecw fans wanted to enjoy themselves and it was a great atmosphere for shows.

Yeah, the hardcore fans knew to expect something fun no matter the card, but it limited their growth and development of new fans. Think about it - Bob: Hey, I'm going to see an ECW show tonight, wanna come? Jim: Maybe, I heard good things about them, who's wrestling? Bob: They got this awesome guy named Sabu that'll be there. Jim: Oh, I heard he's pretty awesome, who's he fighting? Bob: Danny Doring. Jim: Yeah, I think I'll save some cash and watch Seinfeld instead.

No one star was bigger than the promotion, so when one or five stars departed, there still was the allure of it being ECW.

At the time I liked it a lot, the Taz/Bigelow segment and the Dudleys getting crazy heat from the fans were my favorite parts of the show.

I see your point but I would go at it a different way Friends:Who’s wrestling? me:Sabu vs the dan-a-conda Friends:who? me:He’s some dude in neon that does moves and comes to the ring with his best friend a big fat Amish dude that chokes chickens. (All but one friend leave without saying a word shaking their heads clearly questioning this friendship) Lone friend left:Where do I sign up?/old time rock n roll plays and we ride off into the sunset shirtless because that was the style at the time/
