Wcw working with awa and uswa?

They mentioned on whw Monday there was a relationship between wcw and the awa and uswa but I don't seem to remember this. Other than the destruction crew working against the Steiners I don't remember any part of an awa relationship and the uswa side my mind is blank

WCW attempted several partnerships with other promotions over the years.

With AWA, basically WCW was woefully short on tag teams at the time and someone thought it might be nice to throw a bone Verne Gagne's way, since his company was hurting pretty bad. So they rented the AWA's tag champs and put them under masks so it wouldn't hurt them that they were being used as JTTS. I think at least some of Bryan Clark's early Nightstalker appearances were also under this deal, at least the one that saw him with manager Ox Baker.

With USWA, someone came up with the idea to send Vader on a "tour" of smaller promotions to build him up more, with the notion that he would come in and just destroy people. This was the Vader Roadkill Tour in 1995, building up to a match with Hogan. USWA was one of the promotions that they did this with, and here's a fun bit of trivia: It happened during the same time the USWA/WWF war was going on in Memphis, so WCW and WWF guys invading Memphis happened on the same show.

They also briefly partnered with Smoky Mountain during the Watts era.

Much later, they partnered with some smaller promotions to use as developmental territories. One such promotion was NWA Wildside, which is where WCW found AJ Styles.

I heard that Capital Combat podcast. They talked about Ric Flair possibly defending the NWA world title against Brian Pillman instead of Lex Luger on that show. I think the reason why was because they just had a title match on Twin Wars ‘90 in the AWA. The show drew 4000 and took place 5/5/90 from the St. Paul Civic Center in St. Paul, MN. The Civic Center was torn down in 1998. Here are the results if anyone was curious:

6. Larry Zbyszko defeated Nikita Koloff to retain the AWA world title with Nick Bockwinkel as the special referee

Not a partnership exactly, but quite a few of the AWA guys would take the trip to Mid-Atlantic or Houston for a break in the summer months. Verne didn't run much then because people in places like Winnipeg and Minneapolis actually want to get out and do stuff when it's nice and warm outside.
Then they'd come back in the fall.
