Dude had the charisma of a wet paper bag Disagree. Dean had TONS of physical charisma, he just wasn't a good promo. There's a difference. When he was in the ring, I believed he was a stone-cold torture technician intent on tying guys into knots.

Btw does anyone know if William Regal and Dean Malenko have ever had a match against one another? That would be incredible to see. They certainly faced each other a few times in WCW.

They had a really good, but tragically short match on the August 19th 1996 Nitro. I'm not sure if they ever had a PPV match, sadly.

the ludicious 007 Ladies Man gimmick that I remain convinced was all a rib on the stoic Malenko Weirdly enough, he has a bit of reputation for being a funny guy.

Dean's reign with the Light Heavyweight Title was one of the few highlights in that title's history. I believe his match with Scotty Too Hotty at Backlash 2000 was an underrated gem of the era. Luckily that match's reputation seems to grow online year on year. I saw it a few years back for the first time in ages after someone on this forum recommended it and it's absolutely phenomenal, especially for the time; WWF wasn't a workhouse show, and the other Radicalz were elsewhere on the card so giving Scott 2 freaking Hotty a twenty-minute workrate match was an insane decision, but what a payoff.

He had the whole “Double Ho 7” gimmick where he wanted to f*** Lita. The segment where he tried to seduce Lita, only to have her point out his wedding ring, and then the Hardys beat him up and trash his hotel room is hilarious. Lit a points at wedding ring says you're married Malenko replies I'm not married my wife is. Deans my all time favorite in ring performer.

I think the WCW announcers did a great job of playing up just how technically awesome he was. They were constantly going on about his mastery of various submissions with his man of a 1000 holds and other references. Another recent thread actually showed that they were pretty good about building up a wrestler on commentary and giving you a reason to care for them.
I don't remember much of how commentary treated Dean in WWE but with him and Saturn it felt like they didn't really know what to do with them. Saturn got Moppy and Dean somehow became a ladies man. It's a shame that when he showed up Chris was already in the upper card as they might have been able to catch lightning twice if they'd worked together. Then again it probably would have been a watered down version of their work in WCW and disappointing.

He just bored me to death every single f***ing time. But I don’t like technical wrestling anyway. I never liked Beniot either

I don't think Dean expected much from his WWE run since he knew his career was winding down. He had the whole “Double Ho 7” gimmick where he wanted to f*** Lita. What I remember most about Deans WWE run is that he wanted to f*** Lita. Wrestlings weird. I mean... that's not all that weird is it?

Yeah, always heard he was an absolute, Arn Anderson level deadpan zinger guy behind the scenes. It just never came through as part of his wrestling persona. Don't know why.

Dean is probably one of my top five or ten favorite wrestlers of all time. Unfortunately, he was damn near 40 by the time he hit the WWE. He was just so crisp and smooth in the ring and just had natural physical charisma. That Scotty 2 Hotty match as others have mentioned is incredibly good. I'm too tired to look it up, but I seem to be remembering a damn good match he had with Saturn on Heat as well. He got stuck with a weird gimmick, but damned if his matches wouldn't get over.
From the stories I've heard (I think Flair in one of his early podcasts said that Dean was one of the funniest people he had ever met), it just seemed like either Dean wasn't comfortable being like that on camera or felt it would kill his "Iceman" gimmick. I would have much preferred seeing Dean being funny on camera in the WWE than the Double Ho 7 stupidity.

When he was in the ring, I believed he was a stone-cold torture technician intent on tying guys into knots. I'd say that he had a lot of presence for a guy his size. He wasn't charismatic in the sense of being an electrifying personality, but he was definitely believable and not one of those guys who'd go out there and just be a non-presence. I loved seeing the ridiculous air he'd get on Rey for gutbusters.

Dude had the charisma of a wet paper bag Apparently backstage he was f***ing hysterical and one of the most entertaining guys. On camera, wet paper bag.

I forget if the timelines worked out but I remember being annoyed that they never had him and Jericho interact with each other in the wwe. I also remember someone on these boards saying something along the lines of "if dean malenko comes to the wwe they'd give him a pimp character or something" They did have a short match on Heat sometime between the Radicalz debut and Wrestlemania 2000. It was nothing special though.

I remember Ric Flair referring to him as the "Man Of A Thousand Positions" during his run as a Horseman...
