Wasn't that Jimmy Yang? When Vince was told, he rehired JWY for a stint. Yeah you might be right. He did get rehired, whomever I’m thinking of. Yeah, it was Jimmy Yang Wang, and I don't think Vince had personally fired him. He got another few months or a year or something, I forget which. This kind of thing always makes me think of a Foley/Funk story. While I don't think Foley ever explained who he was talking to Terry Funk about, he had been expressing confusion as to why Vince would even have hired some guys. Funk, who has known Vince in some capacity for a long, long time, just grinned and said, "Mick, sometimes Vince does things just to be nice." I imagine that's the kind of thing that applies to some stuff, like maybe Tatanka's last run, where it's not like they're going to likely move the dial, but they will try and make the most of it.

Yeah, Vince didn't know he got released in the mass firings that were setup by talent relations. and was Yang was backstage and Vince asked if he'd take the Spirit Squad's finisher so he could visualize it... he said yes but I don't work here...

Hired post seizure, covered his face so people wouldn't see the former great a shell of himself, put him on TV for a payday with his friends. That's a genuinely warm gesture in rasslin.

I imagine that they considered Stevie (after 2004) a good hand that had little ego and would make his opponents look good. Which was why at WMXX, they gave him the WHC...and yeah, I'll walk myself out of the room now...

He's friends with Undertaker. I remember once reading that he was very popular amongst all the talent because he was such a nice and funny guy. I've heard that too, to the point that while he was having some health issues, the New Age Outlaws changed their intro at house shows to, "...and if you ain't down with Dennis Knight, I got two words for you!"

I look back on some guys in both wwf and wcw and wonder how they kept a job as long as they did guys like ice train and van hammer seemed to be around wcw forever. Wrestling always needs jobbers.

Actually, it's the exact opposite according to JTG. While the majority of people seemed to love it, higher management that didn't already care for him felt he was trying to get himself over and didn't use him again until he picked up his phone and got released. Yep that famous Vince mantra of stop trying to get yourself over but still.... grab that brass ring. LOL

I remember wondering why Funaki was employed by WWE for a long time, until I read that he was cool with Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels.

Not quite the same, as they were massively over at one point but the fact The Bushwhackers were still around and working a relatively full schedule in 1996 will never stop astounding me. 7 years on the roster once it was all said and done.

He's friends with Undertaker. I remember once reading that he was very popular amongst all the talent because he was such a nice and funny guy. Yeah, Foley spoke highly of him in Foley is Good, and said that his Foley impression was great, and that was why they had him play a fake Mankind in Foley's feud with Triple H. All I remember about that storyline was Foley demanding Fake Mankind wait for him in a room, before going and grabbing Tori's ass, telling her that Kane could find him in the room he left the fake Mankind.

Owen: He’s a really nice guy.

I'm actually really confused about why some of these guys WOULDN'T keep a job. Like, JTG was a talented guy back when he was working for WWE. The question isn't why didn't he get fired sooner, it's why didn't they give him material to work with.
