Maybe not 37 minutes, but the song I mentioned runs at around 17 minutes and I think it's amazing. One of the reasons I like it so much is that I used to not give longer songs a chance because I assumed they would be too boring, but "Sister Ray" showed me that a song can build and build and get more exciting if the bands plays it longer.
That's not to say that there aren't a lot of long songs that are really boring though, so I kinda see what you're saying.

I just think most people make really long songs to show off sometimes. It's like a lot of Prog-rock from the 70's. A lot of people think it means more artistically if they do a long song. Can anyone honestly tell me they can listen to a 37 minute song and not get slightly bored with it? This makes me think of the 70's song Court of the Crimson King by King Crimson. It is a great song, provided you stop listening to it after a while.

I don't know if anyone else here listens to Trance, but a lot of trance songs are about 10 minutes long. Every once in a while I will pick up a trance/dance CD. I like the music. It helps me sleep... gives me a beat to focus on, no lyrics to worry about (usually), continuous with no breaks, it helps drive the events of the day out of my head. For the same reason, I listen to trance as I drive long distances... Anyways, prog: I picked up a magazine a about a month ago (Classic Rock) with a free prog CD in it, and on it the best one (in my opinion) is "Black Light Machine" by Frost, just over 10 minutes.

If a long song gets boring after a while, it's because the song isn't that good. Good long songs are made to keep the interest of the listener.
The same goes for 2 minute long pop songs. Some of them seem to drag on forever because they suck.

Kind of a cheat, considering it's like 3 songs in one, but my vote'd go to "La Vie Boheme" from the Musical RENT.

The Original Extended Remix of George Clinton's "Atomic Dog". It clocks in at like 9:59.

Anyone a fan of Buckethead? Too many great songs to list that are pretty long, perhaps I'll get to it later and list some. I have an amazing bootleg of "Whitewash" live that's about 10 minutes long though, so that's a start.

"poeme symphonique" by György Ligeti <- If anybody knows that without googling it I've got a new favourite poster.

Most of the standards (Stairway, Freebird, etc.) have been mentioned, so I'm gonna throw one out there that hasn't been done:
