This is political and will get closed quickly.
That said, the jurors and courts are f***ed in their reasoning, but he's a convicted murderer so he gets what he deserves, even if its a product of homophobia.
I say that as a bisexual.

When the same court and same jurors would give a lesser sentence to a straight man, he's not getting what he 'deserves'. This would set a f***ing horrendous precedent.

"In that note, the jurors went on to ask a series of questions aimed at whether Mr. Rhines would be in proximity to other men in prison. Would he “be allowed to mix with the general inmate population?” Would he be permitted “to discuss, describe or brag about his crime to other inmates?” Would he “have a cellmate?” In other words, some members of the jury thought life in prison without parole would be fun for Mr. Rhines. So they decided to sentence him to death."

Bias played a part in this case. It isn't a fair hearing (something everyone is entitled to) if biases affect the trial, regardless of how repugnant the crime. This isn't justice.

Totally get where you're coming from - the assumption that he'd enjoy prison solely because of the man-on-man sexual acts IS messed up. Unfortunately, right or wrong, people aren't going to have a whole lot of sympathy for a murderer, regardless of the circumstances. It's just basic human bias. Should the decision have been based more on the severity of his crime as opposed to his sexual orientation? Yes, absolutely. But because of what he did, you're not going to see a lot of people crying foul on this. It's pretty messy from a moral standpoint.

The problem isn't "he's going to die for murdering someone" the problem is a explicit double standard in how someone is sentenced because of their sexual orientation.
