The President of the United States once tackled Vince McMahon to the ground, punched him in the face, and shaved his head at WrestleMaina.

Off topic but that segment was so bad that even Vince said that it was the worst thing he ever saw in his own show. Now my pick is Hardcore Holly being on a main event. Even poor Bob wrote in his book that the lack of reactions he got was because the people didn't believe he was a main eventer.

The Bayley being the new face of the company still makes me laugh. WWEs main target audience is not 10 year old girls and no ones buying her beating ronda rousey. The entire Cena comparison was ridiculous. Yes she has brightly colored merch, but good lord Cena is an all time talent. He wasn't always. At the start, he was a guy who connected with a kid audience and went from there. At the time in NXT, Bayley was connecting with kids and people of all ages in multiple countries, I was at NXT Takeover London, she was over as Hell with everyone. That she didn't rise to the occasion and seemed intimidated by the main roster is true. That she's been booked horribly is also true. But mid 2015 when she's knocking it out of the park, at that time she looked an amazing prospect. Most of the posts praising her ended with a variation of "if everything goes right". It hasn't but that's the beauty of hindsight.

Dave "Fit" Finlay, a road agent for years, makes an in-ring comeback in his 50s and not only gets over to a degree, but still hangs with good in-ring talent much younger.

Mr Kennedy was almost Vince McMahon’s son. What’s more, people actually wanted it.

John Layfield began 2004 as one half of a tag team that was getting jobbed out to teams like the Bashum Brothers and Scotty 2 Hotty and Rikishi. He ended 2004 as one of the longest reigning WWE champions in about a decade.

I'm sure I said at the time that this was bound to happen, but living this storyline week-to-week it was DEFINITELY a reluctant push. The treatment of Bryan post-injury showed that. Bryan being pushed they were definitely enthusiastic about, but not pushed to the main event title. I guess I see the whole Bryan-Authority angle through different eyes. Had it not been so easy to see what the end result was going to be (Bryan triumphing at Mania over everyone who had wronged him) maybe I would believe that this was a case of WWE being forced into some creative corner. Sort of like Vince winning the Runble in 1999, I knew the end result was going to be Austin triumphing at Mania. The only question was how they were going to go about getting him to the main event. You have waaaaaay too much faith in WWE to play out a logical story in the present era. Daniel Bryan confirmed in his own book and interviews that he was supposed to face Sheamus in a midcard match at WrestleMania 30. Him winning the world title over Evolution in the main event was very clearly not the original plan. CM Punk quitting and Batista getting booed caused WWE to fall ass backwards into booking the logical conclusion to the storyline.

Clearly he thought that other stuff was hilarious. Vince is insane after all.

And in a match where Nash took a bump off a ladder through a table, no injuries were reported beyond the usual "old man pains."

Cesaro got his teeth literally shoved into his skull and finished a match Undertaker was set on fire... accidentally. And still did an entire match of 30+ minutes. Kane was nowhere near the scene. A pyro technician died that night.....

In spite of these wacky choices for main event matches in 2012, it took until September until the WWE champion CM Punk closed out the show in a title defense, in spite of the WWE championship not changing hands for the entire calendar year.

Hey, time traveling 90s wrestling fan. You know Goldust? Yeah, the guy we're supposed to boo because he's gay. Well, he's wrestling in the WWE over 20 goddamn years later.
