So something I think everybody on here is guilty of sometimes is responding to something with 'THIS IS THE WORST (x thing) EVER' when it's really just a shit example of 'x thing.'
Coachman, for me, is inching upwards into being one of the worst announcers of all-time.
I thought of the other competitors; Rob Bartlett is really too forgotten to be taken into consideration. Coachman for me is by far the worst announcer they have on TV, because everyone else is at least moderately competent (especially when Vince isn't in their ear, hello Michael Cole) or just bland as f*** (Byron).
The most recent example of somebody approaching Coach's competency level is Mike Adamle.
So, it comes down to this - you have to include one of the two of them on your commentary team. No cheats, no 'I'd rather do myself significant physical harm than have either' option, no 'I'd rather make it so the color guy was a repeating recording of Big Show farting from that burrito skit with Eddie' option. You have to have one.
Because for me? Adamle is better than Coach.
Sure, Adamle didn't know how to pronounce anything, got confused easily, knew nothing about wrestling. But he was trying hard, charismatic, and for some of us became entertaining for all the wrong reasons.
Coach, on the other hand, is like a mosquito bite. I've never seen a commentary get anything as fundamentally wrong as 'Rousey can rest in the bear hug' that he not only clapped back over when challenged, but crowed about being right when Rousey broke out of the bear hug. For me, this fundamental failure at understanding wrestling psychology is worse than mispronouncing every single name on the roster, and Coach doesn't have the excuse of being 'so bad it's good' like Adamle.
What do y'all reckon?
