This thread is killing my love of Star Wars more than the Last Jedi ever did. I just find it hilarious that you're not allowed you enjoy the Prequels for what they were instead of giving them nothing but unbridled hatred. Meanwhile the Clone Wars movie & Solo exist.

{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}it just dawned on me that there’s no mention of Phasma in any of the spoilers or the trailer. Talk about a bust. {Spoiler}Given how she's been Samoa Joe'd in the last two films, would you want her back???

The entire operation has become like WWE; I want to see how much worse it could possibly get.

I still go to bat for Episode III (a lot of that is for the memes, but there's some genuinely great moments in there) and Episode I had one of the most fun lightsaber fights in the entire saga. Only movie I thought have nothing worth redeeming except for some meme factor was AOTC.
Still never saw Solo and the Clone Wars pilot getting stretched into a theatrical release was always bizarre to me. It's a good thing I didn't judge the show in general by that because IMO that show turned into the best thing about the prequel era.

I'm almost the opposite. I find very few redeeming factors in ROTS, while I have a soft spot in my heart for AOTC because Detective Obi-Wan was a nice little subplot and it's to date the only movie I've ever seen in an IMAX theatre (and the first movie I ever saw in the U.S.). I'll still freely admit everything else about the movie was garbage though.

I genuinely enjoy the prequels warts and all. Id rather watch them than any of the garbage Disney has done

I just can't fathom enjoying the prequels outside of a purely ironic/meme-driven fashion and a few fun action sequences because I find them to be straight-up bad movies (Episode I debuted when I was 14). The new ones are at least competent on most levels, just kind of dull since it's hard to tell what story they're trying to tell.
That said, yeah, it's not surprising if people who grew up with a particular movie/series tend to enjoy it more than people who didn't. No crime in that.

The prequels at least had a clear point from the get-go. That’s why it’s easier to like them. The whole time the question was “how?”. Rather than this trilogies biggest question, which is still “why?”.
But yes, you’re going to like whichever one you grew up with.

The thing is I didn't grow up with the prequels, I was 14 when TPM came out. Like you said the prequels at least had a clear point from the get-go and I loved Palpatine's rise to power story arc.

I wasn’t either. I was nineteen when the Phantom Menace came out. But I do hold them in lower regard than the originals. In fact, they’re two of the worst to me. Only the Last Jedi was worse, with the Revenge of the Sith being in the middle with the Force Awakens. Rogue One and Solo are in my top five, Rogue One being at number two and Solo at number five.

I'd put the prequels above all of Disney's era, but still below the original trilogy

As a staunch hater of the prequels, you (and others that speak up for them) I feel are right in this regard. It is a little bit by default, but yeah. That was the whole intrigue of it. I only had a few years in my youth to ponder about the prequels, it’s crazy to me to realize fans had been theorizing about ‘em for more than 20 years.

My ranking of the main episodes so far would be:
1. Empire Strikes Back 2. Return of the Jedi 3. A New Hope 4. The Force Awakens 5. Revenge of the Sith 6. The Last Jedi 7. The Phantom Menace 8. Attack of the Clones
Again, the only one I didn't find anything worth liking was Attack of the Clones.

A New Hope/The Last Jedi (they tend to flip depending on my mood) 4. The Force Awakens 5. Attack of the Clones 6. The Phantom Menace Loooooooooooong drop of a cliff. 7. Revenge of the Sith Seriously, f*** that last one.

Of the main series for me it's
1. Empire Strikes Back 2. Return of the Jedi 3. A New Hope (drop) 4. Revenge of the Sith 5. the Force Awakens (bigger drop) 6. The Phantom Menace 7. Attack of the Clones 8. the Last Jedi
The only ones whos position are set in stone are Empire Strikes Back and the Last Jedi. The otheres switch with one another in their respective tiers on any given day. With the Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones I usually like whichever one I'm not watching more.

Yeah, I flip flop a lot on which movies I enjoy depending on the mood. Sometimes I'll even watch one of the gazillion fanedits there are out there that somehow make the worst trilogies better.

So something talked about plenty is JJ Abrams extreme "Sci Fi Writers have no sense of..." when it comes to space distance. In both Star Trek and Star Wars he has people on a planet watching another planets destruction in real time.
Was there anything that egregious in George Lucas Star Wars? The Parsec thing and the Bespin journey in Empire are the worst things that needed explanations that I can think of.

While the "why" question is certainly one that bugs me with the new ones, I at least spent some time during them thinking "huh, this could go in an interesting direction"; that was sadly never really something I got from the prequels. Like, I remember being pumped after seeing Yoda in a lightsaber duel, but then had a day or two to think on it and and went "Oh, God, no, that movie really wasn't good, was it?" Think it's why I don't really bother ranking the movies; at this point I care about the original trilogy and don't really need much else, though after going through my parents' attic recently I did find my stash of old EU books and will likely hang onto my copies of the Thrawn trilogy titles.
