Pfft... I can't believe they'd make characters that are blatant cashgrabs for merchandising in Star Wars... What about you? Nope. ME either boss! You're missing a porg Like anybody would buy a Porg. Especially a suction cup Porg that could be stuck on the rear driver's side window of a car. What kind of person would do that?

I completely agree about Rose. I thought she was mostly just there. Not a favorite of mine, but I don't get the irrational hate for her either. She's inoffensive. There are dickheads that wanted something to hate about the movie from the get go so Rose and Kelly Marie Tran became the target It got to the point where said dickheads chased her off of social media by being utter cocks about the whole thing.

I dont see the issue with new alien. It can hardly be worse of a character than Maz... Maz is possibly my least favorite character out of the entire Star Wars franchise. Awful design. Boring. Pointless. Stands out as CGI in a Cantina throwback scene filled with practical effects Butthole eyes. Engaging in a firefight that she calls a "union dispute", which is slightly awkward considering Disney's relationship with labor.

Just want to wholeheartedly reject any insinuation that any criticism of the character Rose Tico automatically lumps you in with the people who harassed the actress. Rose Tico isn't above reproach because of them. The character ranges from bland to annoying, and her actions range from poorly thought out to nonsensical. As far as the acting goes, that is one thing I generally don't have much criticism for with these movies. I just wish they had better writing.

I understand people who have legitimate gripes about the character, but harassing the actress because of her race and gender is just way too far

The Hunger Games Admiral DJ ... who seems to get a pass because the actor is cool, but his character is basically a generic trope. The aforementioned Maz and Poe. General Hux who is basically a cartoon character now. Anyone on the Casino Planet ... wasnt that place lame?

I'd say Poe's the main character in these movies I actively dislike. In Force Awakens I really half forgot he was even there because he has no major significance to the plot but I didn't really mind him; in Last Jedi he just suddenly has false importance flung onto him so he can just be a useless whiny idiot who causes most of the movie's problems, all while not really actually learning anything from it. I can't stand Poe. Fine in TFA as a cocky hotshot. TLJ though ... urgh. He was a right, whiny, annoying, arrogant prick who should have been shot out the airlock after his attempted mutiny. Almost every decision he made was a f*** up that cost lives.

Um......as a longtime Star Wars fan who's been aware of various SW things for years, such as certain actors not wanting anything to do with Star Wars again, this one - if true - is a friggin' shocker:
According to Rebel Force Radio's Twitter account, a Star Wars podcast of some regard that I can tell, they reached out to the actor's agent and got confirmation of this.....
Denis Lawson is in Rise of Skywalker.
WEDGE ANTILLES IS BACK??

I've heard from SW pals that the source is very reliable, so it seems this is indeed happening. I'll admit: I was afraid to invest any belief that it was real, because this does make me happy and I don't want the happiness killed by rumor mongering, but I was and still am stunned by this: he's been notoriously non-Star Wars for decades. Even his nephew being cast in the sequels - if you don't know, look that up and you'll be glad you did - never drew him back for anything (I'm talking conventions and signings and what not). Disney's big garbage truck o' money has bought another one.

Seems he was part of the 3-part Aftermath novel series, and in reading thru stuff this morning I think I saw him on the cover of an upcoming Journey to RoS book......which is nice as {Spoiler}when he was last seen in Aftermath, he had relocated to Hosnian Prime - aka the planet that is destroyed in Force Awakens - as a flight instructor.

Wedge should have been Leia's second in command in the sequel trilogy, but instead of being an obnoxious Kathleen Kennedy avatar with purple hair and a ballroom gown, he should have been a clear minded, logical and reasonable authority figure who sends Finn and Poe on a B-story adventure to find the something something that helps the good guys do something they need to do.

Ackbar would also have fit in that role well. You could write novels filled with better ideas than what was made. "Volume 1: Actually seeing Luke, Leia and Han all together in one scene."

Ackbar's treatment in TLJ was a disgrace.

Wedge, Ackbar, Mon Mothma. Any of them would have made more sense than a character we'd never seen before who come out of nowhere and acts like an obnoxious moron who alienates her subordinates for no reason.

It wouldn't have been so bad if the new character was actually good ... and Akbar didn't get shat on to make room for her. It's telling how dull this new trilogy is when, other than the stars, none of the new characters are remotely interesting or memorable, and even the main characters are pretty dull for the most part. Kylo Ren is great, BB8 is fun and Rey is OK ... and that's it. The rest, for me, are bland. And the supporting characters, I can barely remember any of their names or who they are or what they did. Even the prequel trilogy which gets shat on, had a much better and more memorable cast of supporting characters.
