In terms of a Joker backstory I'm partial to, "He was the Red Hood, took an acid bath, and beyond that.... I dunno." I do like having that level of connection with Bruce from that one run-in, but I really don't think there's any need at all to know WHY he was in that position. Exactly. He could have been the Red Hood leader, an underling, a guy they blackmailed, anything.

The other origin I like is the fan theory that Heath Ledger's Joker was a former soldier.

Put me in the camp of people who likes not knowing what Joker's true origin is, but that said, I also love the idea that his "origin" keeps changing repeatedly, making it even harder to know what his true background is. Like Hit-Monkey said, Joker pretty much recounting different versions of "Do you know how I got these scars" is true Jokerism in motion. Just when people think they have the answers, he changes the question.

Whilst true that part of Joker's genius as a character is you don't know everything about him and what makes him tick, it'll be nice to have a film attempt to carve that sort of a story out, and how it will be received. i don't think there is any harm in trying. i hope the story can live up to the actor it's being given too, because if on a part, I can see this being a roaring success, and FYI, I hope it is.

Any and all Joker origin stories should be served up by Joker himself so you never know if it's BS or not. You could bust out any horrific or redeeming story about his origin. Do a movie. Do a comic. Do a short novella. Don't care. As long as Joker is the one telling it, you can turn right around and go anywhere else next time.

There’s an episode of Batman TAS called Legends of the Dark Knight, where different kids each describe their version of Batman. You could do an interesting take on that with Joker, with different established characters giving the origin they heard for the Joker. You could even go as far as to leave little red herrings in there, and very loose threads that seemingly provide connections between different takes on his “origin” to lead the audience on but it’s all bullshit.

His 1989 movie origin in the best one. I hate the failed comedian/Red Hood one. Nah, The Dark Knight did it best by not revealing his origin while having him tell multiple conflicting backstories throughout 5he film. He's so much scarier when you don't know who he used to be. which is the true origin that the Killing Joke tells... Joker flat out says he's lying about his origin in it.

I don't even think it necessarily has to be that, but it should certainly be in that spirit. If not something like that it should be something like, I dunno, Bruce piecing together what he thinks is Joker's origin, only to at the end reveal some kind of detail that seems to torpedo the entire theory. Either way you should avoid providing anything at all conclusive with it. Granted even giving him a set origin is better than the stupid-ass, "The Joker is actually three people," thing.

Three Jokers has me entirely confused and it's going to be a glorious mess. I'd be lying if I didn't say I wasn't stoked to see how they try to pull this off though.

If this is enough like Killing Joke to wipe the animated monstrosity that is the first 30 minutes of that otherwise fine yet oddly underwhelming film from my mind ill take it fixed

Looks pretty gritty and interesting Looks interesting. May have to give it a shot. Hell, looks better than Leto's Joker, though that's not hard to do I guess.

I really like the shot of him in the hallway. His walk contrasts with his walk in the beginning of the trailer.
Dude gains swagger and confidence but is completely bonkers.

I'm... cautious. The trailer is well put together and there are some really effective bits in there, but I'm really going to need to see more of the meat of the thing to really judge it since I could see it being very easy for it to go completely off the rails.
Still, this is certainly worth keeping an eye on.

From the trailer it seems like we’re not getting a hero moment out of him becoming Joker. Its not a happy thing.
This is a good hearted dude that tried and tried but succumbed to the evils around him. There’s potential for a really messed up and sad arc.
Now tell me if Batman shows up pleaseeeee

Got some Killing Joke meets Taxi Driver vibes from that trailer. Been really interested in this one and this teaser’s got me excited so far.
