We've got one on Metallica, lets take a look at the band created by one of the former members. Personally, I think they're just as good as Metallica, and even their newer, more melodic stuff (save for the misstep that was Risk) is enjoyable, at least IMO (Dystopia was a killer album). While Peace Sells is probably my favorite album, I find So Far, So Good, So What to be highly underrated, lots of good stuff on that album like Hook in Mouth, 502, Liar, it's a shame that it's only known for In My Darkest Hour (though that is a great song too). (note: please do NOT discuss Dave's political/religious beliefs, thank you)

I think they are MUCH better tgan Metallica, and Mustaine is a better guitarist than Hammett.

They’ve done well for themselves, but if Dave was serious about beasting on Metallica he should have found a real singer.

(save for the misstep that was Risk) I liked Breadline, but it always seemed like it was missing one element I can't identify to make it great.

I like Peace Sells...but Who’s Buying (the full album), Endgame, Rust in Peace and a few songs here and there. I’ve seen them live three times and they’re fun to just drink and let loose to. But I think their bad songs are way worse than Metallica’s bad songs. Dave’s a weird f***er though and his rotten attitude probably held the band back from being bigger. I think they are MUCH better tgan Metallica, and Mustaine is a better guitarist than Hammett. Agreed. If you look “overrated” up in the dictionary you’ll see a picture of Hammett. Mustaine can SHRED.

I think they are MUCH better tgan Metallica, and Mustaine is a better guitarist than Hammett. Mustaine can play faster and better, but Hammett seems more versatile and his playing evokes more emotion.

Metallica has a sound that would appeal to more mainstream fans not just speed metal fans. That's why they're bigger. I love them both.

Big Megadeth fan here, I discovered them with Youthanasia way back when. I've always been a fan of their heavier / slower play, such as Youthanasia, System Has Failed, United Abominations, and Thirteen. I even really like The World Needs A Hero, and saw it as a necessary intermediate album getting away from Risk and back to their roots.
In terms of the Megadeth vs Metallica debate, I'm firmly in the Megadeth camp here, although I don't know enough musically to say who is the better guitarist. Mustaine is definitely the better lyricist, though, far and away.

Megadeth has been my favorite of the big four thrash bands for a while. Sadly, their last couple of records have been rather underwhelming.

After Rust In Pieces and Countdown To Extinction, I don't find a lot of their work to be good. And I'm sorry, but as good as "Dystopia" was, them taking the Grammy over Baroness and Gojira a couple of years ago was straight bullshit.

Countdown to Extinction is a killer album all the way through. And "Angry Again" is f***ing amazing.
I dig Metallica, too. I don't know that I could decide definitively that I like one band over the other.

I can't really say I got into them, but I do enjoy some of their songs.
By the way, would anybody else agree that "Crush 'Em" was just a poor fit for Goldberg as his theme song back in 1999? I know he was in "Universal Soldier: The Return," to which that song was on the soundtrack, but it just didn't work.

My favorite of the big 4 is Anthrax, but I always loved Megadeth. Dave has always been a prick, but many people in the genre are. I cannot imagine how unbearable it had to be to deal with Metallica when James, Dave, and LARS were all in the group.

I love Megadeth. Tornado of Souls is probably my favourite song of all time.

I dig em. My favorite era is 90-94, but I do think United Abominations is a phenomenal album. Favorite songs are Countdown to Extinction, Reckoning Day, and Hangar 18.
In the great Megadeth/Metallica debate, I go with Metallica. Dave has a propensity to stick together random riffs as opposed to letting the song flow. That, and James doesn't just mumble when he sings live.

Great band, and Dave's damn near a genius.
I saw them on the infamous Risk tour, and they were brilliant. Risk was actually supposed to be a Dave Mustaine solo album, but it was made a Megadeth album due to label/manager preassure.
Gar was their best drummer, by far.

I never knew Risk was supposed to be a solo album, I always knew System Has Failed was. Somewhere along the way, I heard someone say Risk would be considered a good album, would have been better received if it wasn't Megadeth that did it, and I tend to agree. There are some really good songs on there, Time, Doctor Is Calling, Prince of Darkness. And also some horrendous ones, like Crush Em, and the NOT Bon Jovi Wanderlust.
