"First off, Hogan's name used to always seem to come up when his contract was coming up and he was sending out feelers to see if there was any interest. At this time it was one of the few times Vince wasn't really interested. He was thinking maybe if we would have gotten the deal done a month or two months early... maybe he might have considered it. He might have thought about it. But during this time there was so much going on with the XFL and just our company exploding in general. There wasn't a whole lot of interest in Hulk at that time. We figured we can wait. Let Turner do their thing and maybe it would be good for Hulk to sit out a little while." "Mysterio wasn't a hot property for WCW either. So it wasn't like, 'oh my god you're missing out on this huge hot property of Rey Mysterio that WCW has dawn all this money with.' Rey hadn't done anything yet. He was truly a great talent and tremendous talent, but what the hell had he done? The whole thing with Rey Mysterio was that Rey was asking for a lot of money that Vince didn't feel that he warranted. Vince didn't know him, felt he was small. He didn't like masked wrestlers and again, what had Rey Mysterio done in WCW to make him worth all of this money? Plus he had a contract he was being paid out on. So he wasn't interested in coming to WWE for less money." "I think again without all the particulars, the first match that comes to mind was Austin vs. Goldberg. To have that matchup at some point. To be able to build to it. Same thing with Undertaker and Sting. There was thinking, 'okay do you bring back Hall and Nash and put them back into the fold?' There were a lot of what if's. It all becomes mental masturbation at that point. Because with the exception of JR, I don't think there was anyone who had really dealt with Goldberg and Goldberg showed zero desire, nil, zilch to come in. He had his deal with Turner and was going to be paid out. He didn't want to come in so the fact that he didn't want to come in -- we sure as hell wasn't gonna go after him. We didn't want anybody that didn't want to be here." wrestlinginc.com/wi/news/2018/0724/644082/bruce-prichard-says-wwe-once-wanted-to-book-steve-austin-vs/

I listened to his defence of his DDP stalker character.
When you hear deluded stuff like that you realise what kind of cult like environment must be present within WWE creative, that leads to them writing utter dogshit and thinking it's great.

That whole segment confused the hell out of me. Basically they couldn't do the DDP character that was over in WCW because the WWE audience only watched WWE so they had to create an entirely different character. But they did the NWO just a few months later, and Goldberg was Goldberg for a little bit.

More like you realize how firmly Prichard has his lips planted on McMahons ass I mean, when you consider that he owes his whole livelihood to Vince it kinda makes sense. Even the money he's getting today is because he's telling stories about Vince and Vince's company.

I always found it weird, even 16 year old me back in the day was like "why are they doing this when Wrestlemania is Sunday?" They started an entirely new storyline 6 days before their biggest show ever.

WWE have spent the past 17 years pushing the narrative that there was a War between the promotions for the audience who would constantly be switching between shows.
Who the hell would believe that a WWF audience wouldn't recognise DDP?

“Oh no one would know DDP” he says.
Then later he says they changed the character because he had done the character and it was old. How would they be tired of the old DDP character if no one knew who he was.
There’s no one weirder than the mind of a wrestling company toadie. They’ll leap through hoops to justify anything and everything. The boss always made the right decision and never messed anything up.

I mean, considering when Rey did come in he immediately was treated like a big deal, I kinda think he was right to not let you f***ing lowball him, lol.

I find it irksome that he talks about Rey as if he was some geek on the level of Silver King. The year before they brought in Perry Saturn and tried to play him up as a major signing. Rey was easily on the same level as Jericho, Eddie, and Benoit.

All they had to do after DDP took off the mask was say something like "I don't give a crap about your wife to be honest, I've got what I consider better at home - I just wanted to get your attention. So...do I have your attention now, 'Taker? Come on, Dead Man, come make me famous."

Rey Mysterio popping out of the floor then proceeding to be Rey Mysterio would have been literally all he needed to do. That was a guy who was always going to get over because he had the easy kid appeal of the masked hero character and the ring work that even if it wasn't as revolutionary or as crazy in 2002, would still have easily popped a damn crowd. Prichard bends over backwards to eat his own ass once he's done with Vince's a whole lot with all these excuses, but this is as glaring a f***ing example as you can get.

Bruce is in constant "let me back in the inner circle, Vince" mode. His show is getting harder to listen to. He's not at the levels of Bisch's BS yet, but it's in sight.

That's why I preferred Tony's show before the obnoxious format change. Tony didn't have a single shit to give about getting back "Inside" the business, and it made him a lot more honest for that.
