Saw it this morning. Definitely more Rogue Nation than Ghost Protocol, but still a solid film. Upholds the general level of excellence the franchise has had since the 3rd film. Tom Cruise might be getting a little old for the hand to hand stuff though, because they sure do love them some chase scenes this time....

this may be the only franchise ALL the movies are superb . Holy shit what a movie , solid from beginning to the very end . I wasnt so sure about Henry Cavill before watching, but damn did he deliver a great performance. this is the role Cruise was born to play , I hope they do more .

If they were going to have a repeating antagonist he was the dude. Came off as dangerous af, Ethan even scarred him up in their last encounter. Fantastic role, dude has range well beyond Superman.

Well if you don't count the second movie Second one, while very much of its time, is still far from a bad movie. It has a few problems, some of them big, but it's still the M:I movie that opened the door for the M:I movies that followed and is definitely a guilty pleasure.

Does it still have the same trite plot twist as the rest of the movies where the mission turns out to be possible in the end?

This is a strange series. I actually find the first two the worst in the series, but they were so profitable that they had to keep doing more and the sequels after that started delivering the goods (kinda similar to Fast and Furious). Adding to the weirdness was that the first stellar outing was the one that made the least money due to Cruise's oddball behavior at the time (MI:III). Ghost Protocol was amazing in an IMAX theater, but it really lost something just watching it again at home.
Glad to hear Cavill is a good antagonist in this because the big problem this series has always had is really lame heels. Phillip Seymour Hoffman has been easily the best bad guy in the series, but then what's the competition really? Dougray Scott? The lame Russian scientist guy in the 4th? The guy in the 5th one whose idea of being a villain was to speak in a raspy whisper at all times?

If anything, these movies aren't so much about the bad guys, as they are about what impossible mission will Tom Cruise and company accomplish this time.

Looks like it is the most critically acclaimed MI movie and made 62 million, the highest weekend debut for an MI film.
And this is the 6th movie in the franchise too.

I'm suitably impressed Tom Cruise hasn't seriously injured himself (or worse) doing these stunts by himself.

I don't think she was that bad, but the character was abysmal, easily the worst problem with the movie. She exists solely to f*** Hunt, f*** Ambrose, and play the damsel in distress.

I’ve never seen any of them but I took my mother in law to this today and I really enjoyed it. My big problem was Ilsa and Crusies wife looked exactly the same.

I’ve never seen any of them but I took my mother in law to this today and I really enjoyed it. My big problem was Ilsa and Crusies wife looked exactly the same. I find this weird. Especially cause both resemble Katie Holmes to me, personally. Anyway, took the GF last night to watch it. She hasn't seen ANY of the MI movies but enjoyed it nonetheless. Really good. I loved the non-stop pacing. Felt like very well done scenes to build up action scene, after action scene, after action scene... Very appreciative of the steady film making. Clear action scenes are so rare these days, it's nice not to have stuff chopped up to bits. f***ing Tom, man. Couple times I just laughed thinking to myself "You're 56, god damn". I run every single day for at least 40 minutes and watching Tom run these distances at an insane speed just made me think "No 56 year old should run this fast." Luthor & Benji do feel a bit ham-fisted in there, but it's still to see them. I found myself sorely missing Jeremy Renners character. Definitely feels like they're down for another. I gotta say I can't imagine this going longer than 2-3 more films but who knows. Awesome shit. My ranking 1.) Ghost Protocol 2.) MI:III 3.) Mission Impossible (mainly nostalgia) 4.) Fallout 5.) Rogue Nation 6.) MI: 2 dove boogaloo And even if I rank it 4, it's still an immensely solid action flick. But all these have been good and different and I think it's easy to enjoy varied aspects in each.

I think the next direction to take with the sequel is possibly {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}The Apostles/Syndicate killing both Elsa and Julia. Thus allowing Ethan to go full rogue and down a darker path in order to take them out once and for all.
