I think the next direction to take with the sequel is possibly {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}The Apostles/Syndicate killing both Elsa and Julia. Thus allowing Ethan to go full rogue and down a darker path in order to take them out once and for all. Yea..I thought the same. One if not both of those is primed to die in order to advance his character.

{Spoiler} If I had to kill one I'd just go with Julia. Ilsa has some narrative value at this point and is set to be Ethan's actual love interest going forward, so the ex-wife that he still gets along with has to go. Personally I'd just rather be done with the Syndicate or Apostles at this point. It's not like they have any heat really.
Anyone else think Angela Bassett might take over the IMF now that Baldwin was killed off? I was kinda stunned they killed him. Either that or she was a one movie guest star and maybe Jeremy Renner comes back to become the new boss. Speaking of Renner, I don't think he was needed in this one. If you have another actual agent (as in not Luther or Benji) in this I doubt Cavill could do his heel turn so effectively because Renner would have been there.

Hate on the guy for his Scientology, but there's very few Tom Cruise movies that I've watched that I didn't come out the other end entertained, and this one left me entertained. Guy loves making movies, and it shows with the finished product.

I can respect him for going all out with his films because Lord knows I wouldn't have the courage to do what he does. As someone who is literally afraid of heights seeing what does with the Mission Impossible stunts makes me sweat. But I am in complete agreement with you too. There hasn't been a Tom Cruise film that I've watched and haven't enjoyed. He's very similar to the likes of Morgan Freeman, Tom Hanks, and Denzel Washington who aren't in any outright sucky films.

I think the plane/underwater sequence from Rogue Nation and the knife to eye from MI:II are his most insane ones. That's not even mentioning the halo jump, all the motorcycle shit and all the climbing..

Saw it yesterday, enjoyed it. The Mission Impossible movies are like macaroni and cheese: you know exactly what you're getting, there's not a lot to em, but you'll enjoy it while you're having it. You don't go in looking for much more than a fun two hour actioner, and this franchise consistently delivers that.

Guy loves making movies, and it shows with the finished product. Absolutely seconded. Hell, I even enjoy the Reacher movies despite him not fitting the role AT ALL but, for me, he pulls it off. I kind of like to pretend that between those two franchises, he's not playing a character and that it's just Tom Cruise IRL. Regarding the MI movies, I had absolutely no interest until I happened to see Rogue Nation by chance but I love the more recent 3 vastly more than the first couple...or few...I dunno. I couldn't even finish the first two.

Being on a Tom Cruise binge, I recently re-watched "Collateral" for the first time in over 10 years and god damn do I still love that film.

I've seen all of them except Rogue Nation in theaters, and I plan on seeing this one this week.
And speaking of Cruise movies, American Made was a really solid flick.

Hell no. Spare me that fridging shit. This is 2018. Saw the movie yesterday and it was great fun, as MI films usually are (except for the fascinating train wreck that is part two). I could have done with a bit more heist-y stuff and less all-out action, but I won't complain. I also love the fact that the last two MI films partially took place in London. It's like pissing in front of 007's house to prove you are superior.
