I think Hell in a Cell could be No Way Out or Judgment Day.

Throwback show:
WWE: Red Indian Strap Match
(That was what Vince called the match between Valentine & Strongbow in 1979.)

Wouldn't "Lazy PPV names" just mean keeping the same ones? They changed the names to pop buyrates and it worked for HIAC and TLC, which is why they survived and it didn't for Breaking Point and Fatal 4-Way. Its not lazy moreso than its them realizing what was a bigger draw name wise, and that certain gimmick matches can sell PPVs, which is what they already knew with the Rumble. The only argument here just seems like nostalgia for the PPV names they dropped. It's more the fact that it means there HAS to be a Hell In a Cell/TLC match no matter what the storyline is. Like HIAC is meant to be a culmination of a brutal feud that can only be resolved by locking them in the cage but now the stipulations are dictated by whichever month of the year it happens to be rather than whatever the wrestlers have been doing.

True dat. The last time I can remember a Hell in a Cell actually being used as a feud ender was Taker/Edge at Summerslam 2008...every one since has been "Well, it's that time of the year again...guess we should make this month long feud a Hell in a Cell Match".

Jan=Royal Rumble Feb=No Way Out Mar=WrestleMania Apr=Backlash May=Judgment Day June=King of the Ring July=Fully Loaded Aug=SummerSlam Sept=Unforgiven Oct=No Mercy Nov=Survivor Series Dec=Armageddon
All of these work for gimmick ppvs too. But no, they have to spoon feed idiots who can't tell when a gimmick match will happen. No Way Out can mean cages, cells, or chambers. Backlash is WrestleMania rematches. No Mercy can be extreme rules or TLC. So can Armageddon.
This isn't hard. But again, let's be lazy in every department.

Its not "meant" to be anything. HIAC was just some crap HHH and Taker would pull yearly for one of their fueds. EVERY HIAC match before they made it a PPV either had HHH or Taker. The best thing HIAC ever did was let other wrestlers get in on being in that match. Its a matter of branding, not laziness. They recognized that those match types drew more than regular PPV names and that they could build a PPV theme on said gimmick. I am not seeing any real argument against this other than nostalgia for old PPVs. Its not like Great Balls of Fire/Capital Punishment/Over the Limit/Payback/Battleground didn't also happen in this time period.

WWE: Shark Cage is going to be the new Mania. I'm convinced that they overpaid for that shark cage and keep trying to figure out ways to include it in feuds to justify the cost. I'd love it if "Halloween Havoc" came back for the October PPV, and if "Season's Beatings" became the December PPV (I think it was the subtitle of an IYH one year). I know those names are tacky, but they're delightfully tacky.

Just naming the ppv after the match is boring as f***. They wanna do Payback and Battleground again, fine. But just having ppvs named after a type of match is dull as hell.
