Hmm thought he had a chance at making the main roster one day even as enhancement talent. He has weird charisma that makes you like him. Guess he goes back to TNA
Wait wait wait.... Mahabali Shera vs. Dan Matha happened. Those poor fans in Ocala must be scarred for life. To put into perspective how embarrassing Shera's short run is: Dan Matha is still seen as a prospect worth keeping around.

And the closest he’s been to a TV run was them running vignettes for him and hyping a debut, only for it to be a complete fakeout to set up a Samoa Joe beatdown and promo. If he didn’t show up randomly in the Greatest Royal Rumble earlier this year, that would still be his only TV appearance to date.

Genuinely disappointed to be honest. I kind of wanted to see if they could get something workable out of him since the guy does have a weird charisma.

How much do you have to suck to get released from the WWE these days? They’re signing and keeping everybody. I mean, Big Cass was quite craptacular and it took him going against orders to rough up a little person to get let go, and Enzo while entertaining had to get implicated in some serious stuff to get out of there. I can't even remember the last time they fired someone for being dead weight instead of an asshole.

I've heard Matha's been more of a trainer at the PC than a talent they plan on using for TV. It would make sense considering they considered him worthy enough to work with the Saudi recruits and get a cameo in the Greatest Royal Rumble, but not actually use him on NXT TV for something.

If that turns out to be a better use for him, that’s awesome. It’s very common for those who didn’t necessarily become star players or what have you to become really great coaches and trainers.

The shape he's in, odds are he'd be a good conditioning coach. Anyway, feel sorry for Shera and this means I won't get my brutal mocking Ed Shera Indian Busker parody.

Am I the only one who didn't think Shera was that terrible in TNA? At least at one point he was strongly booked, doing a face turn on James Storm and beating up on the Revolution. He had a weird charisma as well. Truth be told I think NXT is pretty overrated when it comes to developing talent. Some of the women have been turned out from scratch there but otherwise I'd say the bulk of the male talent were already veterans of the indie scene, from overseas, or TNA vets who have been around forever.

The guy was bizarrely, inexplicably likeable, this is true, but that's about all that can be said for him. Utterly terrible worker, and unlike some other terrible workers, it was WAY too much work to hide his weaknesses. He's this generation's Tom Magee.

Honestly this surprises me. Shera always seemed like the kind of guy Vince would love and insist on being placed on the main roster as soon as possible, then lose all interest in three weeks later. He just forgot to grow his hair a little longer and wet it.

There was one time in TNA where he didn't understand how heels work and came out as a bad guy but smiling and high fiving all the fans. So basically the Sivi Afi of the 21st Century, huh?

This was like that time WWE signed luchador Magno (who was godawful in his Gutcheck Match), I knew immediately that this wasn't going to work because quite honestly, he wasn't talented enough to be worth the effort.

Welp, there goes my "turn him into a diamond" theory.
Sometimes, when you put pressure on coal, you just come out the other end with slightly shinier coal.

Yeah, I don't think anyone faults WWE for signing him in the first place.
"Weird charisma" is a valuable trait, the type of thing that really can't be taught or learned and is always rare and in short supply.

So basically the Sivi Afi of the 21st Century, huh? That’s the fake Superfly right? More of a fake High Chief Maivia with the Superfly name sometimes attached, but yeah. Unless it was planned - and I'm thinking by Afi's quick removal from the program that it wasn't - everybody from Vince to Heenan must have shit bricks when he was introduced as the third Islander and came to the ring slapping kids hands on the way.

Yeah Shera did that same shit as a heel. The worst part is that he and the rest of the heel faction were introduced together, and despite his partners acting as heels, Shera still slapped hands with the audience.
