Of those guys I think Tanahashi would be beyond dead in the water if he went to WWE. Naito would fare best since he has an actual gimmick and shtick that would get fans into what he's doing. Okada would be okay if he could step up the pace of his matches to fit a typical WWE time limit. But Tanahashi? There's very little about his game that would translate to WWE.

I hope it's all a work because I'd rather all things be copacetic in the NJPW locker room, but I just don't see why they'd make a work out of something like this? It's a pretty big time for them in terms of whether they're gonna keep the Elite on their roster, and their ongoing US expansion, I don't know if it's a great idea for them to perpetuate the idea that the new regime are losing their employees' confidence. I don't know what payoff they'd have in store that would be worth making people believe that the company is in the wrong hands.

I dunno if Meltzer is actually involved. At least he better not be. If he was knowingly involved with a big work then his entire journalistic cred is kaput. If these guys are talking to him and semi working him then that's another thing because he basically has to take it at face value. I have said these guys would be the biggest sellouts in the history of the business if they went to WWE right now. Yes, Adam Cole was in the group and he bolted for WWE, but circumstances were a bit different last year. It's not like Cole was involved in an entire indie PPV, nor did his departure cripple ROH as a whole. It would kinda hurt NJPW to lose these guys, especially Omega, but they have a bunch of guys and will be okay. It might cause them to rethink the U.S. expansion. But ROH is basically all in on these guys and it would wreck the company for these guys to walk. I very much doubt that Meltzer would be knowingly involved in some sort of work. I think that he's been around long enough to know that they are probably working him a little bit, but like you said he kind of has to take them at face value and report it.

Oh, I'll admit this is draining my enthusiasm as well. I don't really want to watch BTE every week with these quasi shoot meta BS comments about contracts and ticking clocks. That stuff isn't what the show was built around, nor is it what made it popular. It's not a big deal for NJPW to lose most of these guys other than Omega, but all it would mean is that NJPW would retrench a bit back into Japan and not worry about the U.S. expansion thing. Given the recent bleh Long Beach gate they probably need to rethink it regardless.

At this point it seems like the Elite have started to run out of gas creatively. They'd obviously be miss used in WWE and NJPW's expansion into the US would take a huge hit if they left but in the long term it might force NJPW to actually do some major shows in the US and not just rely on the elite bringing in the fans. Honestly the entire Elite act has started to become stale

I think the problem I have with all of it is that it really doesn't matter if they don't go to WWE since ROH and NJPW do these short term 1 year deals. It's entirely possible we'll be going through this again next year, and who wants that? Either go to WWE, stay put, whatever but I don't need to hear about this again.

And if a work not like a big drawing money one I actually like it, if it is a 100% work. "Omega might be leaving and would need to lose the belt ASAP" adds crazy stakes to the WrestleKingdom match, and I'm sure they'll use the possibility of it being Omega's last NJPW match to sell the show

www.f4wonline.com/daily-updates/daily-update-bullet-club-aries-vs-johnny-impact-will-ospreay-267806"The Young Bucks, Cody, Hangman Page and Marty Scurll all announced that they will no longer be marketing Bullet Club t-shirts after the end of this year. A lot of people have asked what that means. It was a business decision made, given New Japan owns the Bullet Club name and they are looking at marketing themselves with IP that they will own themselves. It's not indicative of where they will be in 2019. At King of Pro Wrestling it appeared that the Tama Tonga side will be the one using that name." Well they are really pushing the Elite is leaving New Japan hard now.

I'm amazed at how much people are turning on the elite lot here now. I don't follow them much at all so don't know if this isounds indicative of a wider turn?
If it is, part of it I feel has to be down to what a few (myself included, which seems incredibly pompous I know) speculated about All In bursting their bubble because of having nowhere to go from there.
If they're as creatively spent as some are saying here, that obviously is a bigger factor.

I think it's more this "Will they or won't they?" thing that is going to get very old in a hurry. Imagine them staying but then this time next year we'll be hearing this same stuff all over again. It's not a matter of being creatively spent, it's that they think their own contract status is somehow something people need to hear about every week. As far as the shirts thing goes, I would take it as a sign of them hanging around instead of leaving. After all, if they are leaving then why even do a statement about it being the last Bullet Club themed shirt? Who cares? The only reason to say something like that is if they aren't going to WWE and want to do more Elite themed independent merchandise.
