Thanks to this particular story arc, I have developed an unironic likink for Glen Goza's "Heaven Needed a Champion." It is so bad and cheesy that it is good. I find myself just singing it randomly. Anyone else?

I hope I'm buckled up for the hellish roller-coaster that is TLF's look at 1987 WCCW (The death of Mike Von Erich and Fritz has a "Heart Attack" that screamed "Too Soon")

The bit with Fritz kicking Mercer in the nuts is hilarious. I was hoping he’d announce it like he announces the matches trailing off into nothingness like “World class championship wrestling international wrestling star wars Rick Rude’s muscles look like car bumpers reunion arena dallas texas 75702 southwest sports my nuts hurt”.

listening to their Rumble live call and JP has zero clue who 98% of the women in the match are as he doesn’t watch the tv and only watches the ppv’s and he drinks heavily while doing so.He loves Nikki Cross.

I’m listening to the Starrcade tour.
Dusty claimed that he called Vince Sr in the months before he died to say goodbye, and all of the sudden Sr yelled at him “you have the power to stop it!”
Dusty speculated that he was talking about the wwf expansion. Holy shit.

Holy shit. Trying to decide whether to do that or AWA after I finish Wrestlemania (I'm on XV).

You’ll also learn just how big of a thief and loser Verne was.

Holy shit. Trying to decide whether to do that or AWA after I finish Wrestlemania (I'm on XV). The AWA one was weird both the hosts and the fanbase hated it for the most part as the podcast was mostly aimed at people that where wwf fans from the 90’s and early 2000’s and wcw when the nwo first started but they wanted to try something different they didn’t watch it before and the fanbase was dragged kicking and screaming cause they didn’t care about the awa.Jack and JP seemed really interested at first seeing so many guys they knew from wwf before they got there but after a few shows all those guys were gone and they lost interest hard and the focus became mostly comedy based with Verne,Greg,Trongard,Lee Marshall,Larry Nelson and Sheik Al Casey. It was a different type of journey for them as it was very short but I enjoyed it and what was funny was that months later after it was done a bunch of listeners that flatout refused to listen when it was happening due to zero interest in awa emailed in that they loved it after giving it a chance. I enjoyed the Starrcade one more as it was way long and Jack and JP seemed way more interested and it had highs lows more highs and then even lower lows where as the awa one was pretty much all lows.Plus who can go wrong with Jim Crockett jacking off,Gordon Solie pimpin hoes,Lee Marshall sex orgies and Jack arguing with lapsed Kevin Nash.

Holy shit. I wonder now: just how MUCH power did Jim Barnett have? Dude was a huge mover and shaker in the business for years. Also, MTV wanted the WWF?! Jesus, the 80s is such a butterfly effect. Between Verne, Frtiz, Vince, Watts and Crockett, so many moves could change so much if they go any other way.

Let’s put it this way, Cornette said that in the past you could f*** with Vince because he was just another promoter, but you couldn’t f*** with Barnette, that Ole Anderson made the worst mistake of his life by pushing out Barnette. Without Jim Barnette, Vince would’ve never been able to expand nationally, apparently Barnette took Vince and personally introduced him to every important station manager there was and vouched for him so that would Vince could broadcast the wwf in the other markets regardless if that station already had another wrestling show. Without Barnette, Ted Turner doesn’t buy wcw. Without Barnette’s help there wouldn’t be a wwf. Hell without Barnette there wouldn’t be any wrestling on tv period, he used his money and his contacts to get wrestling on the Dumont network.

Hell without Barnette there wouldn’t be any wrestling on tv period, he used his money and his contacts to get wrestling on the Dumont network. There's WAY more to that butterfly effect. WWF wasn't the first wrestling company on USA Network. That honor would belong to Southwest Championship Wrestling. SCW screwed itself over by sending in a show containing a super-bloody match, a complete no-no with USA's terms. Pissed off and owed money by SCW, USA asked Vince if he wanted the timeslot instead. At one point, World Class was airing in some states further up north and getting fantastic ratings there. Everybody in the company begged Fritz to let them go do a tour there but Fritz refused to even consider it. This was as WCCW as in its dying years. Ole being the first to try to go national, before McMahon. The Pro Wrestling USA crash and burn, Verne stealing the AWA timeslot out from under the group. So much more.
